Job Title: Multi-Skilled Engineer (Mechanical with Electrical Skills)Location: HeckmondwikeWorking Hours: Monday to Thursday 6:00 AM - 2:00 PM, Friday 6:00 AM - 1:00 PMReports To: Operations ManagerJob Overview:We are currently recruiting for a Multi-Skilled Engineer with both mechanical and electrical expertise to join a well-established sealant manufacturing company based in Heckmondwike. The successful candidate will work alongside the Operations Manager to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of machinery, contributing to the continuous improvement of manufacturing processes and safety standards.Key Responsibilities:
Preventative Maintenance: Carry out scheduled preventative maintenance on all machinery to ensure maximum uptime and operational efficiency.Safety & Fit for Purpose: Ensure all machines are safe, fit for purpose, and compliant with operational standards.Machine Installation: Coordinate the installation of new machines and equipment as required.Engineering Requirements: Review and advise the Operations Manager on engineering requirements and improvements.Electrical Work: Work with both single-phase and three-phase electrical circuits to ensure all equipment is properly maintained.Safe Working Practices: Actively promote and adhere to safe working practices throughout the workplace.Contractor Coordination: Work with and coordinate contractors when necessary for additional support and specialist work.Repairs & Servicing: Undertake repairs and servicing to the highest standards, ensuring minimal downtime.Fault Finding & Testing: Perform fault-finding and testing of equipment to diagnose issues and perform required repairs.Root Cause Analysis: Determine the root cause of faults and provide cost-effective solutions to remedy defects.Continuous Improvement: Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational performance and efficiency.Communication: Maintain effective communication with management and relevant teams, providing updates and seeking assistance when needed.Clean Work Areas: Ensure all work areas are kept clean, tidy, and organized.Operational Efficiency & Safety: Recommend improvements to enhance operational efficiency and safety within the workplace.OEE Standards: Ensure machinery operates to Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) standards to meet company targets.
Key Requirements:
Experience: Proven experience as a Multi-Skilled Engineer in a manufacturing or industrial setting, ideally with experience in a sealant or similar production environment.Electrical and Mechanical Skills: Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with both electrical (single-phase and three-phase) and mechanical systems.Problem Solving: Excellent fault-finding skills with a focus on cost-effective, long-term solutions.Health & Safety: A solid understanding of health and safety regulations and a commitment to promoting safe working practices.Communication: Strong communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with management and other teams.Team Player: Ability to work well within a team and collaborate with external contractors when necessary.Flexibility: Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment and take on new challenges as part of a growing company.

The apprenticeship is held in partnership with Bath College at the Radstock Somer Valley Campus. The apprentice will be expected to attend college in person for part of their working week, and attend work at Locksbrook the days you are not at college.
Duties will include:
Assist in the setup and operation of CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines, lathes, milling machines, and other machining equipment
Diagnose faults and implement corrective actions to ensure equipment efficiency
Learn and apply machining techniques to produce high-precision components and parts according to technical drawings and specifications
Interpret and analyse engineering drawings, blueprints, and schematics
Work closely with engineers, technicians, and team leaders to support production goals
Conduct quality checks on finished products using measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to ensure adherence to specifications
Maintain a high standard of 5S
Maintain and troubleshoot machinery and tooling, learning best practices for maintenance and repair
Ensure company policies and procedures are adhered to at all times
Ensure compliance with all relevant Environmental, Health & Safety and regulatory legislation
Actively support continuous improvement activities throughout the business

Responsibilities:
Work independently to initiate innovative and functional product designs and manage the design projects related to new product development across all Rust-Oleum product categories. Participate in research of internal and external voice of customer meetings, analyze customer needs and insights, and translate them into value-added design solutions. Design, prototype, and test product design to ensure quality, functionality, durability, manufacturability and correlate chemical and physical material to consumer application and use, cost, safety and environmental impact. Work closely with Marketing, Product Management, Manufacturing, and R&D teams to ensure that the designs meet/exceed market/product needs, cost targets, and production requirements. Identify and select materials and components to meet design objectives. Develop and perform competitive assessments and analyses. Act as the "thought and team leader' for the business regarding product delivery system and packaging design. Qualifications:
Minimum of bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related engineering discipline. 5 or more years of hands-on experience in new product development and tooling design, prototyping, and testing of mechanical systems with proven track record of successful new product design and development, preferably in durable consumer markets. Experienced in plastic injection molding and plastic parts design. Proven leadership in managing new product development, start to finish. Extensive knowledge of product design, materials selection and manufacturing processes and direct experience working with a broad array of materials, preferably for consumer goods products. Excellent working knowledge of Computer Aided Design modelling concepts and software proficient with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks) for 3D part modeling, drawing, and assembly creation of the mechanical components. A passion for design, engineering, problem solving, with critical thinking and creativity. Ability to work effectively with a cross-functional team from project concept through commercialization. Strong project management, analytical and problem-solving skills including good special acuity for design. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication and presentation skills.
