An established and respected hospice charity is seeking an experienced and motivated Volunteer Engagement Co-ordinator to join its Voluntary Services Team at an exciting time of growth and development. This is a fantastic opportunity for a Volunteer Manager or Volunteer Coordinator looking to develop their career within a well-regarded hospice organisation.
About the Role
As Volunteer Engagement Co-ordinator, you will lead and coordinate the recruitment, onboarding, induction, engagement and retention of the volunteer workforce. You will ensure best practice in volunteer management, helping to build an inclusive and welcoming volunteering environment where every volunteer feels valued and supported.
This role combines operational delivery with strategic development. You will work closely with the Head of Volunteering to expand volunteer recruitment methods, develop new volunteer roles aligned to future organisational needs, and contribute to the implementation of a Volunteer Strategy that supports wider strategic objectives.
Key responsibilities include:
Coordinating volunteer recruitment campaigns and onboarding processes
Developing innovative ways to attract volunteers, including community engagement events and outreach initiatives
Building partnerships with local organisations to increase volunteer applications
Supporting managers with volunteer involvement, training requirements and role development
Ensuring compliance with policies, safeguarding, data protection and best practice in volunteer management
Maintaining accurate volunteer databases and analysing data to produce reports and insights
Supporting under-represented groups to access volunteering opportunities
Managing volunteer performance issues sensitively and professionally where required
Contributing to the development and review of volunteer policies and procedures
About You
We are looking for a highly organised and proactive professional with experience in volunteer coordination, people management or community engagement within a charity, hospice, public sector or nonprofit environment.
You will bring:
Experience of volunteer recruitment, training and engagement
Strong administrative and IT skills, including CRM/database management and reporting
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
The ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Confidence handling sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy
Strong analytical and organisational skills
A creative and innovative approach to developing volunteer opportunities
Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends and travel across the areas covered
A full driving licence and access to your own vehicle
An understanding of current volunteering trends and national volunteering issues would be advantageous

Your time will be divided between attending classes on relevant subjects and practical experience in the workplace which will include:
Provide meet and greet service for schools & community groups visiting Kensington Palace by welcoming groups, issuing paperwork and identifying and resolving any issues. Work independently to deliver the schools welcome. Deal with any problems or complaints, and ensure they are escalated to the Site Coordinator as appropriate
On a rota basis manage the Clore Learning Centre at Kensington Palace, acting as the responsible person for the building
Support the Site Coordinator with the communication of all school visits to on-site operational teams, by producing and distributing a list of all bookings on a weekly basis
Work closely with onsite operational team leaders and managers to ensure the smooth running of the schools and community activities on site
Support the management of the learning spaces in the Learning Centre and Palace by making room bookings, setting up equipment and furniture for internal and external customers and conducting daily checks of spaces, equipment and furniture
Attend operations meetings and briefings as the Public Engagement representative when the Site Coordinator is not available
Provide administrative support to the Site Coordinator and schools and communities staff as required
Independently supervise Public Engagement volunteers, ensuring that they are well supported and motivated in their roles
Administrate volunteer rotas and email communications. Work with the Site Coordinator to develop and deliver volunteer training
Act as Event Manager for special events, holiday activities, and evening events as required. This involves some weekend/ evening work and supervision of volunteers and casual staff (Public Engagement Assistants)
Liaise with Learning Assistants to ensure smooth bookings and administrative processes for learning visitors. Support with managing the Kensington learning email inbox
Assist with making school bookings using the sales database Kinetics (full training to be given) and processing payments when required
Be familiar with, and comply with, our safeguarding, data protection, and health and safety policies and procedures
Undertake ongoing training in these areas to ensure understanding
Ensure a safe environment for participants and staff, reporting any concerns immediately to the Site Coordinator
Manage the stock of supplies and session resources in the Kensington Learning Centre and learning spaces within the palace
Provide 5* customer service to school groups, community groups and other participants (across all sites) when required, recognising different needs and accommodating these appropriately
Provide general schools and communities support to the Site Coordinators at Hampton Court and the Tower of London as required, including holiday and sickness cover

Training:Training will take place predominantly remotely via a mixture of workshops, lectures and coaching sessions.
Apprentices will require regular learning time, at least every two weeks although delivered sessions will be monthly.
The programme is delivered as a cohort, so you will be able to network with other apprentices completing the same role in a variety of employers and industries. Training Outcome:Apprentices will be able to join the Institute of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability as a member, which will continue after EPA to allow for lifelong CSR learning.

To assist the Services Team in ensuring the maintenance of all buildings and their surrounding grounds, together with all fittings and technical equipment, are kept in good working order in accordance with relevant statutory regulations and other good practice guidelines.
To assist the Services Team (in collaboration with the relevant site management) in ensuring that all services, equipment and buildings are properly and adequately maintained, and that they comply with all relevant statutory regulations.
To organise and undertake general maintenance in CHA buildings, which may include basic plumbing, maintaining equipment (including nursing beds, training provided as appropriate), painting and decorating, basic carpentry, ground work, replacing light bulbs, cleaning gutters, etc.
To carry out Portable Appliance Testing (PAT testing) of all electrical appliances in accordance with legislative guidelines (training provided if required).
To work with the Services Team to ensure that statutory and other regulated tests and checks are carried out and accurate records kept on a timely basis, including but not limited to:
Fire safety and prevention, including fire alarms and emergency lighting.
Nurse call systemsNursing beds

To assist the Services Manager in supporting Scheme Managers in developing and maintaining environments compliant with up‑to‑date H&S requirements.

Beechmore Court, a residential care home for older people opened in 1986. Subsequent sections to cater for those living with dementia in the Isabel and Florence House.

The purpose of this apprenticeship is to support the project team in delivering the initial stages of the project whilst gaining working knowledge of archive management and associated activities and completing the Library, information and archive services assistant apprenticeship course.
The apprentice will help deliver the project objectives through supporting an Archive Consultant to prepare recommendations for future archival conservation and use. They will help lay the foundations for ongoing collections care, and work with some of our volunteers to repackage and reorganise the collection and will support the project team to understand the potential of the collection to spark interest and conversations around the topics of history, heritage and community.
Day to day duties include:
Support the management and development of the Manchester Cathedral archives by:
Supporting the Research Officer to re-package and catalogue existing archive material to reduce the risk of deterioration / loss
Working with volunteers, including occasional volunteer or visitor supervision, to repackage existing materials and to arrange displays
Supporting the survey condition and conservation work on the archive material
Assisting with external enquiries about the Archive and its contents
Assisting with development of policy documents (accession, collection care, loan and disaster)
Updating the CALM data base as required
Support the project team (especially the Research Officer and the Community Heritage Officer) by:
Help with identification of archive items for digitisation
Help with identification of collections and archives that provide sources and narratives that might support audience development

There are over 11,000 archive items stored at the Cathedral, of which only around 50% are fully catalogued. Many of these are historically significant items in themselves, and many more are of significance to the development of the City of Manchester and its population.
Manchester Cathedral has obtained funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) to improve public access to these archives, to carry out much-needed conservation and preservation, and to develop our ability to harness the archives as resources to engage with our local communities.Working Hours :Monday - Thursday, 9.00am - 5.00pm, with break at 12:30 for 30 mins.
