As a Trainee Accountant your main responsibilities will include:
Assist seniors and managers on accounting or administrative tasks
Carry out bookkeeping tasks, including double-entry bookkeeping
Prepare a small company, partnership or sole-trader accounts file to a high degree of accuracy
Basic tax computations and returns
Utilise accounting software
Communicate with the team on any issues or findings

Processing purchase invoices and maintaining the purchase ledger
Raising sales invoices and monitoring the sales ledger, including chasing outstanding payments
Entering and coding transactions onto accounting software - Xero
Reconciling bank statements, supplier statements and cash records
Assisting with payroll processing and RTI submissions under supervision
Helping prepare VAT returns and supporting schedules
Checking calculations and figures to make sure records and payments are accurate
Scanning, filing and organising financial records and correspondence
Responding to routine client queries by email and telephone
Supporting month-end and year-end procedures, including accruals and prepayments
Assisting with the preparation of accounts for review by senior colleagues
Completing AAT coursework and attending training sessions as part of the apprenticeship
Training:Training will be delivered by National Upskill. The apprentice will be based at our office in Leigh, Greater Manchester for the majority of the week, learning on the job alongside experienced colleagues.
Off-the-job training will be delivered remotely through online sessions with a dedicated tutor, with one day per week set aside for study and coursework. There is no requirement to travel to a college campus.
The apprentice will also receive regular one-to-one reviews with their tutor and workplace mentor to track progress towards the AAT qualification and the apprenticeship standard.Training Outcome:On successful completion of the apprenticeship, there is the opportunity for a permanent position within the practice as an Accounts Assistant, taking on greater responsibility for a portfolio of clients.
From there, progression can continue into an AAT Level 3 or Level 4 apprenticeship, leading to full AAT membership (MAAT). Many of our clients' finance teams are staffed by people who started exactly this way.
Longer term, AAT qualification provides exemptions towards chartered study with ACCA, ICAEW or CIMA, opening routes into roles such as Semi-Senior Accountant, Practice Accountant, Management Accountant or Payroll Manager. Overall purpose of the post:
The successful candidate will join the central finance team for the Trust. As part of this role you will also provide support and advice to individual schools within the Trust. As a trainee you will get an opportunity to experience first-hand how both schools, and central finance operates, and what is the driving force behind it.

THE FIRST YEAR
You will start by learning the basics through an online bookkeeping course including the difference between credits and debits, sales and purchase, when VAT applies and lots more.
You will be assigned a Buddy who will be on hand to answer any questions and provide on-the-job training to support your academic learning.
You will have a personal development plan in place from Day One, providing step by step guidance on what’s needed to progress to the next level in your career journey.
You will learn how to use a variety of different accounting software systems including Sage, QuickBooks and Xero.
You will learn how to prepare draft working papers to support the preparation of accounts for sole traders, partnerships and small limited companies.
You will often work onsite at clients’ to assist with audit fieldwork supporting the rest of the audit team to ensure deadlines are met.
You will build relationships with clients through communicating with them regularly by requesting information along with answering queries.
YEARS TWO AND THREE
By the start of your second year, you’ll get more involved in the audits, taking a lead in some of the fieldwork.
You will work closely with other departments within the Firm on tax, payroll and bookkeeping matters.
You will have the opportunity to sit in client meetings so you can understand how your work is vital to their business.
You will become a Buddy to a new trainee to further your development.
Training:
An AAT apprenticeship is typically a three year programme, combining study with practical, on the job training and we’ll give you all the support you need to realise your full potential. At the end of the course you will be a qualified Management Accountant.
We use Starting Off as our training provider who provide weekly webinars for the course. Meeting tooms in the office are booked whilst you are attending the webinar.
The majority of our team then go onto a Level 7 qualification to become a fully qualified chartered accountant.
We provide generous study support including fully paid study leave as well as the course materials and exam entry fees.
There is still an element of study at home, as there is with any course.

To act as a trainee accountant in the Business Services Team, working with a wide range of Financial Services organisations
