As a Data Cabling Engineer, you'll become a vital part of a specialist team focused on excellence and innovation in the data centre industry. As a Data Cabling Engineer You Will Have:
* Experience in surveying, installation, and testing of Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, and fiber cabling systems * Background in data cabling or data centre environment * ECS or CSCS skills card

FPSG are currently hiring permanent Telecoms Engineers to join in at the Digital Transformation stage of a project with our UK based Client, who have offices across the globe. Based from Manchester, working hybrid, there will be a requirement to travel internationally as part of these roles, which will be a fluid blend of working remotely, on-site in Manchester offices, and overseas when required. Due to the nature of the work, you will require a valid British passport, with full right to live & work in the UK without any visa sponsorship requirements. Additionally, a commitment to travelling to international locations is essential, and may be on an ad-hoc basis a few times throughout the year.
As a hands-on, experienced Telecoms Engineer, your duties will include you providing the following consultative advice on a large Digital Transformation project, amongst other duties:
• Using your previous commercial experience within various technical environments (working with SAP systems in a Telecoms environment could prove a significant advantage).
• Analyzing client needs, Documents, and Drawings to recommend appropriate digital solutions (e.g., cloud computing, IoT, AI, automation tools).
• Analyzing the client's current digital capabilities, workflows, and processes.
• Identification of gaps and inefficiencies in the existing systems.
• Evaluation of existing systems, processes, and infrastructures to identify opportunities for improvement, according to standards and procedures.
• Identifying any cost impacts from the bidding phase through to the execution phase and providing expert, consultative advice on the appropriate and reliable solution.
• Providing detailed design comments and check the project requirements concerning standards.
This phase of the engagement feeds an integral part into a very large-scale project, so there will then be need for Telecoms Engineers to be utilised beyond the initial duties in different UK & global assignments.

As an apprentice, your 3-year development programme will be made up of up to 6 to 9 placement rotations.
Our aim is to equip you with the range of skills and experience you need for your successful career. We also understand that everyone’s career is different, so every apprentice’s journey is unique. Here’s an idea of what yours could look like:
Year 1 - Placement 1 – Operational Communications Systems (Stations) – 6 months. You will be involved in many aspects of the delivery of an Operational Communications Systems upgrade project, including Design Reviews, System Delivery, Implementation and Project Safety & Assurance.
Placement 2 – Fixed Transmission Systems – 3 months – You will undertake various Engineering Assurance activities, such as supporting the delivery of IP and legacy communications systems and producing Written Notices to amend and clarify engineering standards.
Placement 3 – Wireless Systems – 3 months – You will employ a variety of Wireless Systems used across the business, including radio systems used by TfL staff and Emergency Services.
Year 2 - Placement 4 – Surface Operational Systems – 6 months – You will spend time with Surface Operational Systems.
Placement 5 – LU Asset Operations – 3 to 6 months – Communications systems operations and maintenance including working with the internal or external maintainer.
Placement 6 - Cybersecurity – 1 to 2 months – Cybersecurity isn’t just about IT systems; many engineering systems use computer-based equipment and networks, including common systems.
Year 3 - Placement 7 – 6 months – Capital Delivery – You will spend time working on a major capital delivery project, such as the delivery of systems for the introduction of new rolling stock or major communications systems upgrades.
Placement 8 – Return to preferred placement for the final 6 months.Training:You will be working towards a Level 6 qualification as a Railway System Engineer. Typically, you will be required to attend college 1 day a week.

We'll support your professional development through a combination of training, mentoring, and networking.Training Outcome:Upon successful completion of this scheme, you could roll-off into the telecoms team, designing modifications to the existing communication systems and contributing to the introduction of new communication systems. The degree award is BEng (Hons) Railway Engineering
