The Digital Technology Solutions Degree Apprentice is a 4-year scheme within BAE Systems Shared Services.
A Digital Technology and Solutions Professional Degree apprenticeship involves working and learning alongside experienced practitioners. It combines spending periods of time at University, where you will acquire an Honours Degree, with time working on real projects, enhancing the skills necessary to develop a long career in the industry.
You will experience different placements working within Shared Services which support all our BAE Systems sectors in the UK and abroad, giving you the opportunity to make a rewarding contribution to the work we do.
Placements will include within the IT Project Management and IT Product & Applications teams and may include opportunity to evaluate, initiate, create and support business solutions using digital technology. Utilising data to evaluate the commercial and security risks and benefits of potential digital and technology solutions before making recommendations for strategies that may have far reaching consequences.
You will be key in helping deliver business improvements through digital and technological solutions. With a passion for digital technology; working with emerging trends and developments.
The scheme will see you choose a specialism from Data Analyst, Software Engineer, IT Consultant, Business Analyst, Cyber Security Analyst or Network Engineer.
The Digital Technology and Solutions Degree Apprenticeship is delivered by Cranfield University with a mixture of day release, weekly block sessions on campus or our Academy for Skills and Knowledge in Samlesbury, and online delivery.Training:

As a Digital Technology and Solutions Degree Apprentice you will experience, learn and develop key skills to help you manage complex projects across the Submarines business whilst also being involved in an exciting period of change and development in the Technology Enablement Function.

The DT&S Degree Apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to specialise in one of 5 key areas:
Software Engineer - analyse, design, code, build, test and implement software and support
IT Consultant - bridging the gap between users and technology - driving forward future change
Business Analyst - bridging the gap between technology and business - defining business requirements
Cyber Security Analyst - define, implement and maintain security products and systems
Data Analyst - collect, organise and study data to provide new business insights
All of these roles are at the forefront of driving new technology and ideas through the business unit. We will support you in identifying what areas of Technology Enablement interest you and which skillsets you have a particular talent for, allowing you to identify what to specialise in from the above list. Over the duration of the scheme you will gain exposure to different areas of the business unit, working on a variety of projects through various placements across different platforms and at different stages of the project lifecycle.
In these work based placements there will be a strong emphasis on the key knowledge, skills and behaviours set out by the academic standard as well as our own business standards and competencies. Over the length of the programme, you will:
Analyse customer requirements, generating user stories, ensuring they meet the client’s business needs, value and ultimately tackling real business challenges
Join customer meetings/workshops to gather requirements
Documenting both software and business processes
Assist in onsite end user training and support the business to achieve a seamless transition to new systems
Join internal team meetings with developers and architects to work on the solutions
Attend post implementation reviews to gather customer feedback on our project, solution and value achieved
Understand and agree with the customer the success criteria and a reasonable test plan
Travel to UK & Oversees client and partner sites – sometimes extended hours may be required to be worked

Training:THE APPRENTICESHIP
This structured 2-year Graduate Apprenticeship program combines work-based learning with academic study. Our apprenticeships are delivered in partnership with leading apprenticeship providers throughout the UK, you will work alongside experienced Consultants on real-life projects, develop your technical skills, and study to complete a recognised qualification in Digital and Technology Solutions.
Our Apprenticeship programmes are made up of a number of critical components, each designed to ensure that we develop well rounded colleagues who have both the experience, exposure and knowledge to deliver great performance.
You will be a valued member of our team from Day 1 and learn to work on real projects from the get-go. From gaining hands-on experience to participating in networking events and structured learning sessions, you’ll get a unique development experience.
As an integral part of your apprenticeship your progress will be monitored and assessed against government standard requirements. You will compile an evidence folder, demonstrating your areas of learning with accredited certificates of completion for elements of your training. Within the last six months of your apprenticeship, you will undertake an assessment by an independently appointed organisation, where you will be expected to clearly demonstrate your capability to perform in your chosen career.Training Outcome:
