We are currently looking for an Industrial Scientist to join a leading biotechnology company based in the Fife area.
As the Industrial Scientist, you will be responsible for supporting the Research and Development team in undertaking projects as per client specifications, including meeting with clients, developing and optimising biopolymer manufacture and performance of biopolymer-based products.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Your duties as the Industrial Scientist will be varied however the key duties and responsibilities are as follows:
1. Contribute to the development of a Quality Management System aligned with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and regulatory standards such as writing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Risk Assessments (RAs) and safety data sheets (SDS).
2. Prepare technical reports and deliver presentations to communicate test results and new developments to company managers and customers.
3. Provide technical consultation to customers on the biopolymer-based products, providing solutions to technical requirements.
4. Maintain accurate records of sample analyses and equipment calibrations in compliance with good laboratory and quality standards.
Role Requirements
To be successful in your application to this exciting role as the Industrial Scientist we are looking to identify the following on your profile and past history:
1. Relevant degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, material science or related subjects.
2. Proven industry experience with biopolymer-based materials, ideally knowledge or experience working with chitin/chitosan.
3. A working knowledge and practical experience with analytical equipment such as rotational viscometer, FTIR, Thermogravimetric analyser (TGA) and UV-vis spectrophotometer (Nanodrop).

The post holder will be working towards educational qualification and registration as a Biomedical Scientist (BMS) using the Departmental SOPs and Protocols throughout all sections of the department.
The post holder must attend an IBMS accredited university apprenticeship-based degree course and complete the IBMS Certificate of Competence Portfolio in the prescribed period, normally no more than four years in employment as an Apprentice BMS role.
The post holder will be supported with study time to complete the requirements of the apprenticeship, in line with job role & service provision.

You will undertake manual and automated processes, interpretation, and report generation to aid clinicians in patient care pathways. Develop colour and additive masterbatch and compound formulations to meet the requirements of the customer
Liaise professionally with other departments, as required, to support the efficient development and delivery of formulations to meet the customer specification

Students study a tutor-supported e-distance learning curriculum and attend residential schools. The work-based projects, negotiated with employers, offer students the opportunity to apply their learning directly to their organisation
The programme is primarily taught through tutor-supported online study, part-time over four years
Apprentices will attend a two-day induction at the University to help them get to know each other and balance undergraduate study with working full-time
They will also attend a week-long residential at our campus in central Manchester once a year, in addition to a two-day mini-residential in the first year
Training Outcome:
After completion of the apprenticeship, there may be an opportunity for a full-time permanent position within the organisation
