You will become trained in other techniques such as liquid penetrant and magnetic particle testing to detect surface breaking defects or you may also get the chance to do volumetric testing such as; Radiography and Ultra Sonic testing, which allows you to detect defects inside the weld. You will need to have the right attitude to health and safety, quality and following instructions.

Training:You will have the opportunity to work towards a Level 4 Apprenticeship certificate, during this time you will work alongside existing welding inspectors at Sellafield Ltd and attend college one day per week.
1st Year – Training will be delivered at a local off-site training facility. You will learn basic hand, trade skills, welding techniques, reading engineering/fabrication drawings, taking measurements and a basic introduction into welding inspection.
2nd, 3rd and 4th Year – You will be placed in the welding inspection team on site/off site and in the supply chain learning about welding inspection, material defects and NDT techniques, i.e. Dye Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, Radiography and Ultrasonic Testing. We also carry out inspections off site as well which means we have to inspect manufactured items/equipment that our suppliers have made in their workshops to check it meets the required standard.
As an integral part of your apprenticeship your progress will be monitored and assessed against government standard requirements. You will compile an evidence folder, demonstrating your areas of learning with accredited certificates of completion for elements of your training. Within the last six months of your apprenticeship you will undertake an assessment by an independently appointed organisation, where you will be expected to clearly demonstrate your capability to perform as a Nuclear Welding Inspection Technician.
What qualifications will I obtain?

Level 4 BTEC Higher National Certificate.
Level 2 Welding Inspection qualification, which allows the NWIT to deploy and supervise welding inspection.

Training:An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.The default length to complete the Dental nurse (integrated) apprenticeship standard is 18 months. Your apprenticeship may be extended to accomodate for the part time hours and ensure you have appropriate training.Training Outcome:There are a wide range of opportunities available to enable registered dental nurses to extend their clinical duties and develop their knowledge and skills within particular areas of interest, for example:

Assist the Dentist during all clinical procedures in the surgery which will include fillings, root canal treatment, bridge crown and denture preparation and extractions
Assisting with the preparation of the patient and equipment during the taking of x-rays and processing and storing the digital images
Record and store notes, charting, medical history, and radiographs on the computer system
Assist the Hygienist with clinical procedures such as scale and polishes and oral health promotion plus charting and periodontal assessments
Disposing of all waste correctly, including clinical, sharps, specialist, amalgam and normal domestic
Carry out and be responsible for all Health and Safety and Cross Infection policies and procedures within the dental surgery
Reception duties which include answering the telephone, greeting patients, making appointments, and recording information on the dental software system

Reporting to the Principal Dentist
Expected duties includes:
Greeting patients.
Chair side assistance to the dentist during restorative and surgical procedures.
Record patient’s clinical notes in computer.
Clean and prepare surgery between patients.
Clean used instruments after patients.
Additionally he/she will be expected to act as receptionist when necessary and routine clerical task: handling payments, booking appointments, answering phone.
Attend the Sheffield College Training Partner - Charles Clifford Dental Hospital within the duration of the apprenticeship to study:
Dental anatomy, Oral diseases, medical emergencies, dental radiography and sterilisation.
You will learn about oral health promotion and preventative dentistry techniques.
Some units will focus on patient care and management and you will cover legal and ethical issues.
Training:
The qualification you will work towards is the Apprentice Standard Dental Nurse Level 3
Training is at the Charles Clifford Dental Hospital - one day per week

Assessment:
Interview, coursework and examinations
Qualification: Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing
