As a Level 5 Journalist Apprentice, you will:
Work alongside BBC News and Sports teams to develop your journalistic skills, creating and delivering quality content for TV, online, digital, and audio
Get involved with all newsroom activities, such as sourcing and securing suitable guests or contributors, writing briefs for your team or shooting and editing films
Find and create stories for diverse audiences - including coming up with ideas, carrying out in-depth research and assisting with interviews
Learn from and work with experts in the field
Training:The L5 Journalist Apprenticeship combines academic training with practical on-the-job experience. As an apprentice, you will follow the Journalist Apprenticeship standard (curriculum) and work towards an industry recognised qualification, the NCTJ Diploma in Journalism. This is assessed through exams and course work.
The NCTJ Diploma modules and assessments are likely to include:
Essential Journalism - how to get the story and develop strong writing skills
Ethics - understanding the Ofcom Code which guides broadcast journalists
Essential Media Law - the toolbox no journalist can be without, and every editor wants to know you have
Journalism for a Digital Audience - understand how digital publishing organisations work and how to write brilliant stories across all digital platforms
Public Affairs - understand how power works and how you can challenge it
E-portfolio - to include ten pieces of journalism, published on any appropriate platform
In addition, you also have to complete an End Point Assessment - a work-related project as part of your apprenticeship.Training Outcome:On successful completion of your apprenticeship, you will be able to apply for job opportunities inside or outside the BBC such as Journalism Researcher, Journalism Coordinator and Journalist roles. As the team coordinator, you will be responsible for:
On-boarding new employees
Coordinating training sessions, and providing ongoing support to ensure a smooth transition into the company
You will also be tasked with managing recruitment campaigns, scheduling interviews, and maintaining communication with candidates throughout the hiring process
In addition, you will work closely with the Talent Acquisition team to develop and implement strategies for attracting top talent to the organisation. This will involve researching industry trends, attending networking events, and collaborating with hiring managers to identify key skills and qualifications needed for open positions.
You will also be required to do the following:
Drafting and publishing job postings
Organising and maintaining data in spreadsheets
Working with different departments to determine hiring requirements and sharing insights with the Talent Acquisition team
Verifying new employee's eligibility to work
Compiling essential paperwork for new hires
Arranging bi-weekly assessment sessions
Overseeing the internal referral scheme
Monitoring the Talent Acquisition team's email inbox
Supporting and participating in data cleaning initiatives for the Applicant Tracking System
Ensuring the Fawkes & Reece internal job board is regularly refreshed

You will be fully trained to carry out the following main tasks:
Enquiry handling and customer service:
Act as first port of call for all type of enquiries. Respond to emails, phone calls, and other communications following established procedures
Assist in managing course registers for both in-person and online classes and recording attendance
Welcome and assist teachers attending in-person teaching at the Thames Suite. Support teachers delivering online courses
Liaise with Digital Skills teachers and other training providers in the University to arrange courses or talks under the Digital Capabilities programme
Contribute to promoting the Digital Capabilities programme by assisting with newsletters, social media updates, and other communication channels
Monitor user’s additional need requirements and provide support
Financial and administrative:
Help us to ensure that our course and delegate information in our course management system is correct and up to date, in line with our data quality standards
Follow established processes for making administrative arrangements for courses and events (e.g., room booking, signage, catering, travel and accommodation for staff)
Monitor payments, making sure we obtain the information we need on time. Work with the finance team to ensure we receive the money we are expecting
Follow our processes and issue refunds where appropriate
Raise Purchase Orders (e.g., for buying equipment, licences, and training)
Create/update documents that explain how our processes work
Maintain and regularly update mailing lists and expressions of interest
Support for teaching and training services:
Make sure that room, computers, software and equipment comply with our standard checklist and that they are ready when needed (e.g., are the computers and projection screens on? is the right software installed?)
When you identify non-compliant issues take remedial action (e.g., fix the issue directly or contact the technical support team)
Track, audit and keep inventories of licenses and equipment
Learn to install and test basic software, either manually or using systems provided, liaising with internal suppliers for support when required
Learn to provide basic IT and AV support (face-to-face and online). This might be showing people how to use the technology before a session or reacting quickly to live issues
Assist with the maintenance of course materials and resources, including the scheduling, recording and editing of course sessions, ensuring compliance with digital content publishing procedures

10 days Business Professionals training at college
Approximately 12 on-site assessment visits per year
