Located in West Hull, this is a large multi-surgery practice accommodating dentists with expertise in each specialist branch of dentistry. The practice is a provider of NHS dentistry in the area but also has an excellent reputation for the provision of private treatments including cosmetic and implants.

As an autonomous practitioner the nurse is responsible for the care delivered, demonstrating critical thinking and skills in clinical decision-making in the management of patients. Clinical practice
Assess, plan, develop, implement and evaluate treatment programmes that promote health and well-being
Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individual treatment plans for patients with a known long-term condition
Prescribe for a range of conditions within scope of practice. Meet with nurse prescribing lead GP at regular intervals to debrief and review prescribing.
Proactively identify, diagnose and manage treatment plans for patients at risk of developing a long-term condition as appropriate
Work with other health care professionals to diagnose, monitor, manage and treat long-term conditions, including non-drug-based treatment methods using a management plan, and in line with national and local policies and practice needs
Review medication for therapeutic effectiveness, appropriate to patient needs and in accordance with evidence-based practice and national and practice protocols
Work with patients in order to support adherence to prescribed treatments/compliance
Provide information and advice on prescribed or over-the-counter medication on medication regimens, side-effects and interactions
Prioritise health problems and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care/nurse triage
Support patients to adopt health promotion strategies that promote patients to manage their own health needs, and those of family members where appropriate, applying the principles of self-care
Support and manage health needs of women presenting for family planning and cervical cytology consultations
Recognise, assess and refer patients presenting with mental health needs in accordance with the NSF for Mental Health
Implement and participate in vaccination and immunisation programmes for both adults and children
Advise, support and administer vaccinations where appropriate for patients travelling abroad, giving relevant travel health advice linking with the current guidelines/websites
Promote and deliver evidence-based care for patients presenting with aural conditions
Meet the needs of patients presenting for opportunistic/routine wound care
Communication
Demonstrate sensitive communication styles to ensure patients are fully informed and consent to treatment
Communicate with and support patients receiving ‘bad news’
Communicate effectively with patients and carers, recognising the need for alternative methods of communication to overcome different levels of understanding, cultural background and preferred ways of communicating.
Anticipate barriers to communication and take action to improve communication.
Ability to work with interpreters and patients who’s first language isn’t English
Understand the implications of cultural differences to health and needs of the practice population
Maintain effective communication with individuals and groups within the practice environment and with other community organisations/ health care workers.
Act as an advocate when representing patients and colleagues
Training:
You will be required to attend a series of in-person and online teaching blocks with Sheffield Hallam University.
Training Outcome:
Become a degree-qualified nurse through a work-based apprenticeship, preparing you to lead the nursing care in diverse health and social care settings. On completion you will be registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC).

The RoleClinical & Chairside Duties
Providing chairside assistance during dental appointmentsPreparing surgeries for proceduresMaintaining high standards of cross-infection controlCleaning and sterilising instrumentsMonitoring and replenishing clinical stockEnsuring surgeries are fully prepared for patients
Reception Duties
Booking and managing patient appointmentsSupporting the smooth running of the practice diaryResponding to patient queries in a friendly and professional mannerMaintaining accurate patient recordsSupporting the general administration of the practice
Patient Care
Providing a welcoming, calm and professional experience for patientsCommunicating effectively with patients and colleaguesSupporting the smooth day-to-day running of the practice
