A local specialist school is currently seeking an Occupational Therapist with experience in paediatric practice to join their dedicated therapies team.This school offers primary-aged pupils with complex presentations – including SLD, PMLD, ASD and/or multi-sensory needs – a curiosity-filled and ambitious environment to develop their confidence, independence, and a real and lasting passion for learning.As an Occupational Therapist, you will join a strong multidisciplinary team in assessing, delivering and developing specialist interventions that meet each child’s individual needs as identified on their EHCP.You will support pupils to develop the functional, sensory, motor and self-care skills required to maximise their participation in learning and everyday school life, while also providing advice, guidance and training to staff and families to promote a consistent therapeutic approach across settings.Working collaboratively with fellow therapists, teachers, partners and parents, you will help pupils overcome barriers to learning, increase their independence, enhance their engagement in school activities, and ultimately improve their overall quality of life.This is a permanent, position over term-time + 3 weeks (42 weeks per year).Person specification:

The apprentice will be required to:
Supervise and support pupils, ensuring their safety and access to learning
Establish good relationships with students, acting as a role model and being aware of and responding appropriately to individual needs
Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils
Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the classroom teacher
Encourage pupils to act independently as appropriate
Prepare the classroom as directed for lessons and clear afterwards, and assist with the display of pupils’ work
Be aware of pupils’ problems/progress/achievements and report to the teacher as agreed
Undertake pupil record keeping as requested
Discuss successful strategies in supporting the pupils in the lessons by discussing and sharing good practice from the team
Gather/report information from/to parents/carers as directed
Support pupils to understand instructions
Support pupils in respect of local and national learning strategies
Support pupils in using basic ICT as directed
Attend to pupils’ personal needs, and implement related programmes, including social, health, physical, hygiene, first aid and welfare matters
Training Outcome:Teaching Assistant in Education.
Once qualified, there is the potential with further education to progress onto careers as a: Higher Level Teaching Assistant, Teacher, Occupational Therapist, Physio Therapist, Early Years Practitioner, to name a few.
Upon completion, the apprentice will achieve their Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning and gain the Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship Standard.
Springwell will also provide any relevant training which is required to support the pupils learning.

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work:
Support the classroom teacher in all areas of teaching, learning and assessment, including using Tapestry
Develop an understanding of the key strategies used across the school to support individual learning needs, e.g. PECS, TEACCH, Attention Autism, Intensive Interaction
Attend training on key strategies and areas of school development
Assist with the preparation of learning activities, displays, resources and visual supports
Report pupils’ responses to learning activities and record achievement/progress as directed
Be willing to take part in all aspects of teaching and learning, including intimate care, play and swimming sessions
Understand and contribute to the emotional support of all pupils
Support the behaviour and well-being of all pupils
Support all of the pupils’ personal needs, including toileting, hygiene, dressing and eating. This may include gastrostomy management, suctioning and tracheostomy care, and administering medication, by an agreed plan, and under the direction of a healthcare practitioner and following appropriate training
Follow manual handling procedures to support pupils with physical disabilities
Follow Team Teach guidance in the positive handling of children
Establish good relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and being aware of and responding appropriately to individual needs
Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher
Follow school safeguarding procedures at all times
Accompany teaching staff and pupils on educational visits, trips and out-of-school activities
Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, safeguarding, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, and report all concerns to the safeguarding lead
Respond to medical or fire alarms where appropriate
Be willing to contribute and support the wider activities of the school, e.g. fayres and fundraising events
Feedback to the teacher regarding information that may need to be shared with parents, for example, about personal care, health or changes in behaviour
Work under the direction of an Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, Speech or Language Therapist to carry out daily programmes of exercises or routines with pupils as required
Training:Teaching Assistant Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard:
An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation
At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying
Training Outcome:
Potential full-time employment within the practice for the right candidate upon successful completion of the apprenticeship
