The role
As Principal Electronics Engineer, you will:
- Lead electronics design activities across complex, multiâdiscipline projects, covering both circuitâlevel design and higherâlevel electrical architecture.

- Solid theoretical and practical understanding of electronics design, including modern PCB and component technologies.
- Proven experience leading projects and/or supervising engineers in a product development environment.
- Experience across areas such as EMC, power management, servo / motor control, embedded interfaces and communications.

A Berthon marine engineer apprentice will learn how to install and maintain all the mechanical systems onboard private luxury sail/ motor yachts and small commercial vessels including Royal Navy vessels. You will learn how to install engines, outboards and generators and their associated systems.
You will learn how to install a variety of mechanical systems including – Propulsion systems (Shafts and propellers, jet drives, outdrives, sail drives), fresh water systems, bow and stern thrusters, air conditioning and heating.
You will learn how to make and repair components, learn to fabricate and weld in aluminium and stainless steel, pipefitting and how to machine components. You will also learn how to service, diagnose faults and repair a variety of different mechanical boat systems including, engines, generators, propulsion systems, winches and windlasses.

During your apprenticeship, you’ll spend a significant portion of your first year at North West Training Council (NWTC) in Liverpool (L5 9RJ). Your typical hours at the training provider will be from 8:30AM to 4:30PM Monday - Thursday and reduced hours on Friday's; you will receive a confirmed timetable upon joining us. You will also be involved in a reactive role where immediate response investigation is required to ensure continuity of Production. Problem solving skills will be fundamental to your approach.
