You will learn how to install a variety of mechanical systems including – Propulsion systems (Shafts and propellers, jet drives, outdrives, sail drives), fresh water systems, bow and stern thrusters, air conditioning and heating. The business is looking for an Apprentice to train alongside our existing experienced team of engineers on all aspects of operational, maintenance engineering (mechanical) duties.
As an apprentice you will study a range of programmes working towards a Level 3 Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician Apprenticeship standard, covering a variety of skills and qualifications while earning a wage and completing invaluable practical skills in industry.
Apprentice technicians will undertake installation, testing, servicing, removal, replacement, maintenance, and repair of a range of equipment, sometimes complex, as part of planned preventative and reactive maintenance programmes. They may also undertake decommissioning activities when plant is being removed from service.
Candidates should be confident, keen, enthusiastic, and committed with a positive attitude to work. As a Machining Apprentice at CMP, part of the British Engines group of businesses, you will be trained to carry out a range of engineering-based activities, developing hands-on skills and experience as you start your career in mechanical engineering.
The apprenticeship is a 4-year programme specialising in mechanical engineering. During your first two years you will work towards achieving a Level 3 Diploma in Machining, which will require attendance at college one day per week. The remaining 4 days will be spent in our manufacturing facilities in Cramlington gaining hands on experience.
During your apprenticeship you will be supported by experienced mentors who will ensure you are provide with the support and guidance to be successful.
At CMP we are proud to develop the next generation of mechanical engineers. Many of our apprentices have developed into design, production engineering and management and have received support in gaining higher education qualifications.
What you’ll be doing:
Learning all aspects of CNC machines, including Rotary machines and CNC Sliding Head machines including:
How to set-up, operate and adjust/edit equipment settings as applicable to the machine tool being used
Read and/or edit CNC programmes
Measure and check components and make adjustments to the equipment/programme to ensure components meet the require specification
Understand the importance of Risk Assessments and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’S)
Use a variety of measuring equipment ensure all inspection requirements are completed
Apply a variety of removal and shaping techniques such as boring, cutting, drilling, milling, grinding and welding
Understand how businesses operate and the interrelationships between departments and activities

Over the course of four years, you will be guided every step of the way by our expert engineers and mentors. Duties may include but wouldn't be limited to developing skills in mechanical fitting, turning, welding, isolation, problem-solving, planned maintenance, root cause analysis and coaching others.Training:Our programme lasts four years and mixes block release college studies with real on-the-job work experience in a range of different electrical and mechanical engineering technologies, to provide extensive learning and application opportunities. You will study the Level 3 Food & Drink Engineering Maintenance Apprenticeship standard alongside other Nestlé Engineering Apprentices from around the UK, on block release at North West Training Council in Liverpool. Here you’ll meet other apprentices from around the country—it’s a great chance to strike up professional relationships and build a network that could open doors in the future.Training Outcome:We are looking to set you up for an exciting and varied career at Nestlé with extensive opportunities to continue your learning and development following completion of your Apprenticeship. Our previous apprentices have gone from Technician roles to become Engineering Specialists, Maintenance Managers, Project Engineers and Engineering Managers looking after teams of people and multi-million pound budgets.Employer Description:Good food nourishes and delights the senses.
