Apprentices will gain exposure to engines already in the field and work both in situ on vessels and in the workshop to repair, rebuild and maintain existing customer's engines – from older models to those still in factory warranty.

Apprentices can expect to gain extensive experience in modern and traditional engine and electronic systems with a premier UK engineering importer. A hands-on learning position where the outcome of the apprenticeship should be that the apprentice will gain experience in the following:
An understanding of modern engine requirements including electronics and controls
Gain a full understanding of what makes an engine work – and therefore how to take it apart and put it back together again
Commissioning of new engines
Use of diagnostic equipment to diagnose faults on modern engines
Competency in diagnosing faults and making effective repairs
To enable the apprentice to gain real expertise and understanding of the complex equipment that we work on, we will expect them to work in tandem with the college to initially gain a basic understanding of both engineering and working in a commercial environment.
Initially, we would expect an apprentice to start in the workshop by observing the engineering team and assisting with simpler tasks such as:
Cleaning parts, labelling and organising to assist engineers
Ensuring tools and spare parts are correctly organised for each ‘job’
As the apprentice's confidence grows – and ours in them, they can expect to be increasingly trusted to be actively involved in the work outlined. Job Description:
HSB Technical Ltd is working with a leading marine organisation to recruit a Vessel Superintendent (Ref: 1613/36). This is a fantastic opportunity to manage a fleet of offshore vessels while ensuring safe and efficient technical operations.
You’ll be responsible for all aspects of the vessels’ performance, ensuring they remain compliant, seaworthy, and operating within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage day-to-day technical operations of assigned offshore vessels.
Ensure vessels remain “In Class” and comply with SOLAS, IMO, Class, Flag, and environmental regulations.
Engage with Senior Officers onboard to drive crew and vessel performance.
Collaborate with internal teams to prepare dry dock specifications and schedules.
Maintain vessel budgets, report weekly, and forecast potential overspend.
Supervise port calls and manage attending contractors and safety documentation.
Monitor engine room logs and overall vessel condition.
Liaise with Class, Port State, and Flag representatives for surveys and inspections.
Participate in out-of-hours support rota and emergency response duties.
Promote HSEQ standards across all assigned assets.
Experience Required:
Sea-going Chief Engineer (or equivalent) with relevant offshore support experience.
Previous experience in a shore-based technical role (e.g. Vessel Superintendent) preferred.
Strong understanding of ship systems, statutory requirements, and compliance frameworks.

A hands on learning position where the outcome of the apprenticeship should be that the apprentice will gain experience in the following:
An understanding of modern engine requirements including electronics and controls
Gain full understanding of what makes an engine work – and therefore how to take it apart and put it back together again
Commissioning of new engines
Use of diagnostic equipment to diagnose faults on modern engines
Competency in diagnosing faults and making effective repairs.
To enable the apprentice to gain real expertise and understanding of the complex equipment that we work on we will expect them to work in tandem with the college to initially gain a basic understanding of both engineering and working in a commercial environment.
Initially we would expect an apprentice to start in the workshop by observing the engineering team and assisting with simpler tasks such as:
Cleaning parts, labelling and organising to assist engineers.
Ensuring tools and spare parts are correctly organised for each ‘job’
As the apprentice confidence grows – and ours in them; they can expect to be increasingly trusted to be actively involved in the work outlined. Your role and responsibilities:
Safety

What you’ll need to thrive in this role:
Technical / Functional Competencies
Understand key functional competencies aligned with industry standards.
Familiar with survey equipment including Starpacks, Hydrins, Rovins, MBES, SBES, R2Sonic, Seapath, and Sonardyne USBL (Intermediate level).
Familiar with communication systems such as VSAT and Starlink (Intermediate level).
Able to perform calibrations of survey and positioning sensors to deliverable quality (Intermediate level).
Familiar with network architectures and able to fault find and resolve interfacing issues (Intermediate level).
Knowledge of data transfer protocols and wiring including RS232, RS485, TCP, and UDP (Intermediate level).
Familiarity with Starfix software package would be advantageous.
Education
Degree in marine engineering, hydrography, or related field
Certifications

Experience
Demonstratable experience, ideally in a senior capacity in marine or offshore surveying

Fugro are looking for an Engineer to join its Structural Monitoring team based in Aberdeen, part of the Fugro Marine Asset Integrity (MAI) business line.
The team is passionate about data and provides asset integrity solutions for offshore energy structures. We acquire, process and analyse Geo-Data to unlock insights, helping our clients manage their risk and ultimately creating a safe and liveable world.
The office is the centre of excellence within Fugro for the work and projects delivered worldwide in conjunction with other regional Fugro offices. You will be involved in the entire lifecycle of projects, from design, through assembly and test, site work planning, to data processing and reporting.
