Here's what you can expect every day: Observe machine operations to ensure quality and conformity of filled or packaged products to standards. Adjust machine components and machine tension and pressure according to size or processing angle of product. Tend to or operate machines that package product. Remove finished packaged items from machine and separate rejected items. Regulate machine flow, speed, or temperature. Stop or reset machines when malfunctions occur, clear machine jams, and report malfunctions to a supervisor. Secure finished packaged items by hand tying, sewing, gluing, stapling, or attaching fastener. Stock and sort product for packaging or filling machine operation, and replenish packaging supplies, such as wrapping paper, plastic sheet, boxes, cartons, glue, ink, or labels. Inspect and remove defective products and packaging material. Clean and remove damaged or otherwise inferior materials to prepare raw products for processing. Develop an understanding of project plans and how they inform and influence production plans
Learn and develop knowledge of company planning tool – Epicflow
Preparing, maintaining and updating production schedules to ensure timely delivery of manufactured goods.
Plan and prioritise operations to ensure maximum performance and minimum delay
Monitoring and adjusting schedules if required. Identify any potential delays or problems in the production process and devise ways to overcome them.
Communicating and coordinating production plans with Production Management and Supervisors on a daily basis and by attendance of update meetings
Communicating production schedules and dates to the Project Management team
coordinate with material procurement and logistics teams to ensure the timely availability of raw materials and sub contract operations
Participation in the development and preparation of various reports to inform and support the operations team
Assist with monthly and yearly stock checks

Capacity planning – understand the Sales funnel and capacities in all relevant departments, creating capacity constraints matrices and action plans to address with relevant stakeholders
RCCP (Rough Cut Capacity Planning) – understand the long-term objectives of the business, so Capex and relevant larger scale plans can be put in place to hit key milestones
Coach and assist the Production Managers/Supervisors to develop detailed manning & resource plans to satisfy business requirements
Become a practitioner and develop & maintain D365, especially with how it’s used for Stock and interfaces with Planning (in future)
Training:Supply chain practitioner (fast moving consumer good) (previously Operator Manager), level 3 qualification:
You will attend college 1 week every quarter over the full period of the apprenticeship
Functional skills if required
The final year will involve completion of a portfolio and preparation for End Point Assessment (EPA). This measures the skills, knowledge and behaviours outlined in the standard and is carried out by ESFA approved organisations independent from the college
Apprentices without Level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this prior to taking the End Point Assessment

Setting up digital print machinery
Checking print and image quality through nozzle and uniformity checks
Calibration of digital print machinery, e.g. print head voltages, registration and stitching, machine profiling
Understanding colour matching and colour ways with the help of the Op
Gain an in-depth understanding of Adobe Suite Program such as, Photoshop and Illustrator
Colour matching along matching alongside lead op and pre-press engineer
Diagnose and resolve colour management or printing problems / respond to any system issues including alerts / stops etc
Gaining an understanding of pre-press colour matching with the help of the pre-press engineer
Understanding spectrophotometry and ink densities. General machine maintenance
Operation of UV curing lamps
Ensure all consumables such as inks are replenished as and when required to ensure maximum uptime / output. Understanding digital inkjet systems mechanically and through software
Gaining an understanding of UV ink and coating viscosities and temperatures and how they impact colour and quality
General inspection of product, identifying any issues with the print that could be from the digital print machine
Understanding print faults
Gaining an understanding of the other processes involved in production zone and how all the processes come together to ensure a high-quality print output
Liaise with the team to help resolve/improve any print or colour issues
Role Objective:
Operate equipment to process raw materials into finished products while meeting safety, productivity, quality, cost, and service requirements
Aid and ensure all product are produced at the highest standard in terms of colour and consistency
Demonstrate ability and willingness to perform multiple job functions effectively
Perform manufacturing operations in accordance with SOP and work instructions
Actively support continuous improvement and Lean activities involved with the LS implementation
Operate machine control screens, material handling, and packing & shipping equipment
Perform quality checks and record results
Proactively respond to any quality deviation
Perform operator maintenance and assist with other maintenance activities

To become an allrounder within the AST team, through pre-print, print, post print and coating operations
Process orders via computer/manual systems and respond to internal and/or external inquires in a professional manner
Training:
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship the qualification achieved will be a Level 3 Print Technician
Throughout your time as an apprentice, you will be supported by both your employer and BPIF Training
You will be assigned a training coordinator to ensure that you have the best training available
Training requirements will be discussed at the point of employment to suit both your own and business needs
Training Outcome:
Upon successful completion the apprenticeship will lead to a full-time position
