Apprentice Fabricator/ Welder
As an Apprentice Fabricator/Welder at Transcal Engineering Ltd, you will become an essential part of our fabrication team. You will work in a modern engineering facility on real-world projects, helping to deliver components to major UK defence and rail customers.
Your day-to-day duties will include:
Reading engineering drawings to prepare and position metal components for welding Learning MIG/MAG/TIG welding techniques to assemble structures to exact specifications Using hand and power tools, grinders, and cutting equipment in a safe and efficient manner Performing weld quality checks and supporting the inspection process with trained personnel You’ll be supported throughout by experienced mentors and our Responsible Welding Coordinator, learning to meet industry standards such as ISO 3834-2, EN 15085-2 and DIN2303Training:
Formal training is delivered at HWGTA, located in Hereford (HR4 9SX) / HWGTA located in Worcester (WR4 9GN):
Level 3 comprises of:
Duration approximately 40-45 months Years 1/2 is a combination of off the job training at HWGTA Training Centre as well as training on site with your employer. This includes 29-42 weeks within the training Centre plus 1 day per week in a classroom setting to cover practical and theory aspects and complete EAL Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering - Development Knowledge Years 3/4 based full time in company developing skills in preparation for the end point assessment to gain your Metal Fabricator Level 3 qualification Additional training for functional skills in English and maths will be undertaken if neededTraining Outcome:
Upon completion, successful apprentices may be offered a full-time role as a skilled welder, with long-term progression into roles such as senior welder, Deputy Responsible Welding Coordinator
