Level 6 Civil Engineering Degree Apprenticeship

During the Level 6 Civil Engineering Degree Apprenticeship, apprentices will work on a range of tasks to gain hands-on experience in the field.

Their responsibilities might include:

Design and Planning: Assisting with designing and planning civil engineering projects, such as infrastructure or building systems

Problem Solving: Identifying and addressing issues during project execution, from technical challenges to resource management Technical Analysis: Conducting surveys, analysing data, and applying engineering principles to solve complex problems Collaboration: Working with teams of engineers, contractors, and clients to ensure the smooth delivery of projects Quality Assurance: Ensuring that materials, techniques, and standards meet required specifications Health and Safety: Promoting safety practices and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations on-site

Throughout the apprenticeship, the apprentice will also engage in learning opportunities, attend workshops, and apply classroom theory to real-world situations.



Training:

The Level 6 Civil Engineering Degree Apprentice will train through a combination of on-the-job experience and formal academic study. Here's how the training is typically structured:

Workplace Experience:

You will spend a significant amount of time working directly on civil engineering projects, gaining hands-on experience in areas like construction, design, surveying, and project management You will rotate through different departments or teams to experience a variety of roles and gain a well-rounded understanding of the civil engineering industry

Formal Education:

You will attend a college or university, typically on a part-time basis, to study for a civil engineering degree. The academic program covers key topics like structural engineering, materials science, geotechnics, hydraulics, and project management The apprenticeship typically includes assessments, exams, and coursework to ensure the apprentice gains theoretical knowledge alongside practical skills

Mentoring and Support:

You will receive guidance from experienced professionals who act as mentors. This support helps them navigate complex engineering tasks and provides valuable insights into their professional development
Regular performance reviews and feedback ensure that the apprentice is progressing and meeting learning objectives

Skills Development:

Throughout the apprenticeship, apprentices will focus on developing both technical and soft skills. They’ll learn to apply engineering principles to real-world problems and improve skills like communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership

Professional Development:

As you progresses, you will be involved in specialised training in areas such as software tools (e.g., AutoCAD), advanced project management techniques, or sustainability practices in engineering By the end of the apprenticeship, tyou will have a degree and the necessary practical experience to work as a professional civil engineer
