Apprentice Nursery Operative

Undertake nursery production activities as required e.g. potting, spacing, watering, weeding, pruning, labelling, lifting and preparing plants for dispatch etc. To be responsible for personal health and safety, and that of others in compliance with legislation and the college codes of practice As and when necessary supervise and assist students whilst on work / practical experience To carry out production activities as are necessary for the production of high quality nursery stock and other protected crops To monitor and maintain the quality of nursery stock and protected crops produced To assist with the implementation routine spray programmes as directed by the Propagator and Garden Centre & Nurseries Manager for the control of pests, diseases and weeds as appropriate To assist in the organisation and operation of sales activities e.g. general sales (nursery or garden centre), shows and sales days when required Attendance at promotional events as necessary Take part in Review and Development appraisals for staff and a structured CPD programme to meet developmental needs To make best use of machinery and equipment and to operate equipment safely Occasionally members of staff as part of the Horticultural Team will be required to assist with opendays, open evenings and other college events (if these fall outside of their normal working hours, staff will be entitled to time off in lieu or overtime payment, subject to prior authorisation by their Line Manager) Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and vulnerable adults for whom you are responsible and whom you come into contact with In order to support during busy exam periods, you may be asked to undertake exam invigilator duties. Safe Use of Pesticides

On completion of the pesticides foundation unit above also choose one of the following units.

Boom sprayer, mounted, trailed or self-propelled equipment Granular applicator equipment Handheld applicator equipment Level 3 award in Emergency First Aid at Work Apprentices without Level 2 English and maths (GCSE grade 4 or C or above) will need to achieve this level prior to taking the end point assessment

Training Outcome:

Working as a skilled member of an IT Support Service Desk for a
medium to large business.
