Youth Worker Apprenticeship (Degree)

As a school-based Youth, Attendance and Welfare Officer, you will have the opportunity to work 1:1 with students who need additional support, helping them to achieve their goals and reach their full potential. You'll be working in a school environment, providing a safe and supportive space for students to explore their thoughts and feelings and develop their skills. In this role, you could: support and mentor young people, including carers and people at risk of offending, run projects that focus on issues like health, bullying, crime or drugs, organise activities for young people, work with social workers, teachers, probation officers and the police. 

Key responsibilities and expectations include:   

Live the mission, values and drivers every day. Select and apply suitable youth work models, methods and tools to engage young people, plan activities, and evaluate impact. Co-develop services and youth-led programmes that promote learning, participation and development. Build partnerships with external agencies (e.g. CAMHS, schools, local councillors) to enhance support for young people. Advocate for youth voice in shaping policy and services, addressing barriers and promoting inclusive practices. Uphold a safe and ethical environment, challenging oppression and ensuring safeguarding and risk procedures are followed. Support pupil welfare through attendance monitoring, liaising with parents/carers, conducting truancy follow-ups, and enforcing expectations. Identify and apply differentiated methods and styles when engaging with groups to meet the needs of young people, promoting learning and development.  ​Facilitate youth work programmes that support the learning and development of young people in line with the youth work curriculum.

 



Training:

You will need to attend the University of Greater Manchester (Bolton campus) 1 day per week for 3yrs.

Please ensure you are able to travel both to Dixons Brooklands Academy and University of Greater Manchester each week.



Training Outcome:

Full-time position within the Academy.
