Location: Hackney, London

Salary: Pro Rata: £27,827- £31,166 (FTE: £32,701 - £36,624).

Term Time Only, 37.5 hours per week: 8:30am - 16:30pm

The Role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Academy Librarian to join their team.

You will play a vital role in fostering a culture of reading and independent learning.

Cultivate a love for reading and recreation throughout the school.

Responsibilities:

* Oversee the daily functions of the Academys library.
* Champion the essential services of the library, nurture a culture of recreational reading, and take the lead in establishing a school-wide atmosphere that fosters reading for enjoyment.
* Enhance the educational experience at the Academy by ensuring that the library contributes to the academic growth of students through diverse means.
* Collaborate with the staff to ensure that the library offers suitable resources to facilitate independent learning and research activities.
* Develop the VLE portal to encourage reading for pleasure.
* Organise reading-focused events and competitions.
* Maintain an attractive library environment for study and leisure.
* Collaborate with subject leaders to provide relevant learning resources.
* Train students and staff in information resource utilisation.
* Plan and monitor the library budget efficiently.
* Ensure the library operates securely and maintains a tidy environment.
* Oversee students during breaks, library lessons, and after school.


Requirements:

* Minimum of 2 years' experience working as a Librarian or a similar role in a library.
* Experience of working in an educational setting or information centre.
* Possess relevant professional qualifications.
* Experience working with and supervising young people.
* Proficiency in library management systems/packages and ICT software.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development.
* Understanding of teaching, learning, and the National Curriculum.
* Knowledge of using ICT to support reading development.
* Awareness of child protection and safeguarding.
* Understanding of budget management.
* Ability to strategically plan for library aims and objectives.
* Previous management experience (desirable).
* Membership of The Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals-CILIP (desirable).
