Independent Reviewing Officer

City of Westminster is looking for an Independent Reviewing Officer and to join their Quality Assurance Service.


This is a Full Time Locum Social Work role.
The Independent Reviewing officer role has two clear and distinct functions around completing high quality statutory reviews for Westminster’s Looked After population of children & young people as well as monitoring the child’s case on an ongoing basis.


The post-holder will provide an effective care planning and review service through the independent monitoring of the Local Authority’s care plans for all individual LAC children and young people.

Your responsibilities as an Independent Reviewing Officer:

To chair statutory looked after review meetings on behalf of the Child Care Review Unit in order to meet all statutory requirements and effectively complete each child’s review process within statutory timescales.





To promote full and active participation of children, young people, their birth families and carers in review meetings.





To work across all the social work teams to ensure that individual care plans are based on a detailed and informed assessment, are up to date, effective and provide a genuine response to each child’s needs.





To ensure that young people’s participation in reviews is assessed on a yearly basis, and an agreement is reached with the young person as to how they will participate in their reviews.





To effectively and swiftly address any concerns identified within care planning about potential drift or social work practice concerns through firstly informal discussions with the social worker and their manager.



Requirements of you as an IRO:

A recognised Social Work qualification (Degree/DipSW/CQSW)
A valid Social Work England registration
Have competent knowledge and experience of Quality Assurance, IRO Work
A valid UK driving licence and car is essential to this role

Location: Lambeth, London
Umbrella pay rate: £40.00 per hour
