Animal Care and Welfare Apprentice
You will assist with animal care programmes which would include feeding, watering, socialisation, training and exercise procedures and the provision of clean bedding and nesting materials, clean caging and associated equipment You will assist with the maintenance and cleaning of animal rooms, corridors, storerooms and laboratory equipment ensuring that they are kept in a clean and hygienic condition all to a high standard You will ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and in particular those relating to Animal Welfare, GLP and Health & Safety You will ensure equipment is maintained to the highest standards and liaise with management and maintenance to ensure any repairs are performed in good time You will sanitise animal caging and associated equipment using the site Cage Wash machine, pressure washers and other equipment supplied for the purpose You will undertake and achieve the qualifications associated with the apprenticeship framework, namely the IAT Level 2 qualification
Career progression towards animal technology is also available for the right candidate after the apprenticeship is completed.
Training:
Animal Care and Welfare Assistant Level 2.
37.5 hour working week. Rolling shift pattern of start and finish times: 07:00 - 15:30, 08:00 - 16:30 and 09:00 - 17:30.
Additional overtime every third weekend may also be required.
1 day per week (exact day TBC) will be dedicated towards off-the-job training, which is delivered remotely by Leeds City College.
Training Outcome:
Progression to a permanent position at the end of a successful apprenticeship is highly likely, along with the opportunity to gain further qualifications in IAT level 3.
