Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Apprentice (Level 3 Engineering)

As you progress through your apprenticeship, you will assist the Newhurst O&M teams with the operational priorities of a state-of-the-art modern Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) which is capable of processing up to 455,000 tonnes of residual waste per year, whilst generating and exporting electrical energy onto the National Grid.

You will develop your knowledge and skills on the ERF technical processes, operate systems using world class technology and develop a detailed understanding of the interconnected electro-mechanical plant and a focus on plant performance, availability, and reliability.

Duties include:

Study towards achieving a recognised qualification in Maintenance and Operations Engineering Follow an on-the-job training programme which will provide effective time with multiple departments across the facility Identify a project that will enhance plant performance, improve efficiency of a process or reliability of equipment, or improve health & safety

You will work closely with high-performing individuals and support a wide range of fast paced teams including, operations, maintenance, health & safety and environmental roles.

Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard:

Apprentices attend Loughborough College 1 day per week, during term time to study set units that map directly into the apprenticeship Trainer/Assessor to visit Apprentice(s) in the workplace

Newhurst Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) near Shepshed, Leicestershire, is an Energy-from-Waste facility which provides sustainable treatment capacity for up to 455,000 tonnes of residual waste per year, generating up to 42 megawatts of energy – which is enough to power around 80,000 homes. Energy-from-waste (EfW) is the process by which non-recyclable, non-hazardous household and commercial waste is used as a fuel to create superheated steam and generate electricity.
