Apprentice Property Maintenance Operative

To assist with Health and Safety duties as and when required. To learn how to undertake a variety of tasks to include grounds work (fencing, signage, paving and so on), joinery works (shelving, hanging doors and so on), plumbing works (sinks, taps, blocked drains and so on), painting and decorating works (classrooms, atriums, external and internal and so on), and other duties that may occur during the range of tasks that are requested such as plastering,
laying flooring, and general maintenance tasks. To assist and execute project work plans and revise as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements. To assist with the formulation of the rolling maintenance programme, and ensure all jobs are completed within the given time frame in conjunction with other members of the team. To learn how to carry out general external housekeeping and ground work. To learn how to carry out regular inspections and report the findings to your line manager in accordance with maintenance plans. To learn how to carry out routine checks and maintenance of plant rooms and systems as per the maintenance calendar. To patrol all areas of the College campus, responding, reporting and dealing with security issues. To liaise with staff, students and customers of the College regarding vehicle and personal security. To learn how to carry out caretaking duties as and when required. To provide assistance to any other member of the Estates team as requested To assist contractors in their duties as necessary and report any findings back to your line manager. The post holder will act as an Emergency First Aider. After successfully completing a training course the post holder will, as requested:- Assist with the first aid equipment held by the college Be able to administer cardio-pulmonary resuscitation C.P.R. Be able to administer first aid to an unconscious person Be able to administer first aid to the wounded or bleeding Call the emergency services as required When required, to take up your role in outreach centres and other college sites. To wear and maintain a clean and tidy uniform, which includes college ID badge as provided by the college at all times whilst carrying out your role at any of the college sites. To assist the College and staff on the journey to becoming a more sustainable college by engaging in recycling and any initiatives implemented by the college to improve our carbon footprint. Any other duties as required by Estates and Facilities Manager.

Training:
You will be required to attend day-release classes at Bishop Auckland College one day per week during term time. Full, on the job training will be provided by the employer

Working Hours :
Shift-based rota. Earliest possible start time will be 6.00am, latest possible finish time will be 9:30pm. 37 hours per week over 5 days.
