Development Manager

A client within the Public Sector based in Greater Manchester is currently recruiting for a Development Manager to join their planning team as soon as possible.

The client is offering a full time, temporary position on an ongoing basis with the ideal candidate having experience of working within a local authority within an enforcement environment.



The Role
Key purpose of the role is to assist the Head of Planning in the development and maintenance of effective links with other Council services, to secure the regeneration of the Borough, and in communicating the value added by the Planning Service.

Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

apply policy broadly, and take the lead role in negotiations on major and complex planning applications and legal agreements with applicants and developers
be responsible for the effective leadership and management of staff within the Planning Service, including the development of effective work, performance, development and support programmes for all staff, and the training of staff on new legislation, guidance and procedures across the service.


display a high level of professional competency, maintaining a thorough and up to date knowledge of legislation and guidance and apply this to ensure legally sound, quality and enforceable recommendations and decisions


The Candidate
To be considered for this role you will require a recognised qualification in Town Planning or equivalent and experience of managing development management, enforcement, heritage and technical support teams.
The below skills would be beneficial for the role:

previous experience of managing budgets, or interpreting financial information
experience of supervising the work of others, including making effective use of enforcement controls
preparing and presenting the Council’s case at planning/enforcement appeals and public inquiries


The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such are offering up to £55 per hour Umbrella LTD Inside IR35.
