Highway Technician
Service Care Solutions have a vacancy working for a local authority in West Sussex for a Highways Technician with an immediate start available.The role of the Technician is to undertake audits of cyclical maintenance operations to ensure that these have been undertaken in accordance with the contracts.
Key responsibilities:
Provide technical and operational support to ensure that the service operates and develops effectively for the benefit of customers.
i.e, creation of complicated correspondence and report writing involving significant research.
Undertake audits of cyclical maintenance operations ensuring these have been undertaken in accordance with the contracts, including road gulley cleaning and jetting, grass cutting, hedge cutting, vegetation clearing and ditch cleaning.
Support the team on a range of technical work.
To include site visits, raising work orders, liaising with customers and stakeholders and providing information and analysis to support the team’s work.
Contribute to the development of operating procedures and user manuals to ensure consistent and accurate inputs/outputs that will provide confidence in the procedures.
Analyse and interpret complex information in order to prepare reports, plans and a range of written material in order to deliver priorities and ensure activities within the service are conducted professionally.
Contribute to medium term planning projects which may include reviewing working arrangements to ensure continuous improvement and business continuity.
For example, service improvement projects.
As required, carry out computer-based designs using Computer Aided Design (CAD) or Geographical Information Systems (GIS) based plan preparations, in order to complete plan presentations to develop or maintain records.
Undertake site surveys, including site checks and preparation of plans and drawings.
Contribute to technical and operational system testing and help deliver additional training for end users across the department as required.
Requirements for this position: 5 GCSE's with A-C (9-4) passes, including Maths and English, or equivalent, or demonstrable equivalent comparable experience.
Experience:
Demonstrable evidence of delivering an effective, efficient professional service to a range of customers.
Experience of dealing with the general public and the ability to represent the Council when meeting the public.
Experience of working in a Highways, Transport or Planning discipline.
Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
Experience of using specialist IT systems for example, GIS or CAD desirable.
Skills:
Full Driving Licence.
Ability to interpret complex information to produce a high-quality document with limited guidance.
To organise and plan and meet set targets e.g.
prepare reports, plans and a range of written material.
Good communication and interpersonal skills in order to provide clear and concise specialist advice and guidance to a range of clients and create effective working relationships.
Ability to present information clearly, concisely, accurately and in ways that promote understanding, either verbally or in written/electronic format.
Excellent literacy and numeracy skills to analyse and interpret complex written material and to respond to complex correspondence.
Strong customer focus with the ability to work as a key contact with the public.
Strong IT skills using Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g.
G Suite).
