Design & Development EngineerTerm: 12-Month Fixed Term ContractLocation: PeterboroughRole: Design & Development EngineerPay: Up to £30 per hour (PAYE)We have a truly amazing opportunity for a Design & Development Engineer to work for a world leading manufacturer, where each project gives you the chance to work on designing and developing world-class solutions at the forefront of the automotive industry.You will become an important member of the Component Engineering Department, where you will take responsibility for developing integral components for a multitude of projects, components, and systems designed and manufactured by the companies Industrial Power Systems Division.Job Responsibilities
Execution of Core Engine System validation consisting of static & dynamic rigs, dyno and machine testingConducting risk assessment through effective FMEA generation on components and systems to identify and address design risks and determine validation needs.Be capable of understanding technical issues as they arise and execute root cause analysis through relevant tools, methods, data analysis and testing to resolve the issueConduct or generate reports to support component and system design reviewsWorking in a multi-disciplined team to ensure solutions meet customer, durability and functional requirementsDeveloping strong relationships with suppliers to ensure design solutions are aligned to high quality and cost expectationsConduct or generate reports to support component and system design reviews
Person SpecificationEssential:
Strong technical background (HNC or technical degree preferred in mechanical or automotive engineering) though other qualifications / experience is equally valuedKnowledge of Diesel engine core systems such as Rotating Systems, Valvetrain, Castings, Lubrication, Breather and Cooling systemsGood understanding of Manufacturing principles & processesExcellent analytical skillsValidation experience of mechanical components and systems, including both rig and complete system testing
Desirable:
Bolted joint and sealing experience8D problem solvingCreation and Maintenance of DVP&R and FMEA’sKnowledge and usage of Team Centre – data management softwareUnderstanding of APQP methodologyCREO CAD software
Hours of Work and Pay
Monday to Thursday - 8.30am to 4.45pmFriday - 8.30am to 4.15pmHybrid – Minimum of 2 days a week onsiteUp to £30 per hour
