HGV Mechanic
Service Care Solutions are working with a local authority based in North Devon who are recruiting for a HGV Mechanic to join the team.Overall purpose of the job will be:
To inspect, maintain, diagnose & repair faults on council vehicles, plant, machinery and equipment.
To carry out M.O.T.
testing both on the Council’s HGV fleet and on privately owned vehicles.
To inspect, maintain, diagnose & repair faults on customers vehicles, plant, machinery and equipment.
Main responsibilities will be to:
To service specialist large goods fleet in line with the Vehicle Operating Standards Agency (VOSA) legislation.
To maintain standard set out above between service intervals.
To attend to vehicle breakdowns, to diagnose fault and to repair as necessary.
To identify parts required to research competitive price and to order parts required.
To prepare all vehicles ready to undergo MOT (Ministry of Transport) inspection, this can include fitting new parts, welding, steam cleaning, fault repair, minor bodywork repairs.
To record repairs and maintenance to all vehicles on an official form (provided by outside body) and to maintain accurate records to each vehicle for the life of that vehicle.
To keep clean, at all times, the vehicle workshop area complying with Health and Safety legislation.
To restrict access to unauthorised parties.
To ensure workshop is left secure whilst away from the depot.
To comply with relevant Health and Safety legislation, policies and procedures.
To maintain confidentiality and observe data protection and associated guidelines where appropriate.
For this role, you will have experience in working as a mechanic or vehicle technician with relevant qualifications including
City and Guilds in Motor Vehicle Technology or equivalent.
At least 7 years experience in HGV mechanical maintenance.
Experience in carrying out MOT Tests
Hold a full UK HGV Licence
Completion of 35 Hours Drivers CPC Training
