Business Administration Apprenticeship

The following are the core responsibilities of the receptionist. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

a. Maintaining and monitoring the practice appointment system

b. Process personal, telephone and e-requests for appointments

c. Answer incoming phone calls, transferring calls or dealing with the callers request appropriately

d. Signpost patients to the correct service

e. Initiating contact with and responding to, requests from patients, team members and external agencies

f. Read code data on Systmone as per the practice workflow

g. Photocopy documentation as required

h. Provide administrative support for the GPs’ and Nurses

In addition to the primary responsibilities, the medical receptionist may be requested to:

a. Support administrative staff, providing cover during staff absences

b. Issue repeat prescriptions in line with protocol

c. Scanning of patient related documentation and attaching scanned documents to patient’s healthcare records

d. Complete opening and closing procedures in accordance with the duty rota

e. As required support in the management of repeat prescriptions, ensuring they are processed accurately and efficiently

f. Provide administrative support within clinics (Influenza or Child Immunisations)

g. Ensure that start of the day procedures (opening up) and end of the day procedures (closing and securing the practice) are completed appropriately.

 

 



Training:

This is an apprenticeship of 18 months duration.  Training for Level 3 NVQ in Business Administration will be provided one day per week off site at Redcar and Cleveland College.
