Pharmacy Level 3 Apprentice (Ashtree Pharmacy)

Preparing and dispensing medicines - You’ll learn how to accurately prepare prescriptions, select the correct medicines and quantities, and ensure they are labelled correctly before being supplied to patients Checking prescriptions - You’ll develop your understanding of prescriptions and medication orders, checking details such as the patient’s information, medicine, strength, quantity and directions. You’ll work within your level of competence and under appropriate supervision Stock management - You’ll help order, receive, store and organise medicines and other pharmacy products. This can include checking deliveries, monitoring stock levels and ensuring medicines are stored correctly Supporting patients and customers - You may speak directly with patients, answer routine queries and provide appropriate information about their medicines, while recognising when a query needs to be referred to a pharmacist or another healthcare professional Medicine safety - A major part of the role is learning how to work safely and accurately. You’ll follow procedures designed to prevent errors and protect patients, including maintaining confidentiality and following relevant legislation and pharmacy policies Preparing medication - Depending on your workplace, you may help prepare medicines such as tablets, capsules, creams, liquids or other prescribed items Maintaining pharmacy records - You’ll use pharmacy systems to enter and update information, process prescriptions and maintain accurate records Working with the wider healthcare team - You’ll communicate with pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, dispensers, healthcare professionals and other colleagues to help ensure patients receive the correct medicines and support Handling queries and resolving problems - You’ll learn how to deal professionally with routine issues, such as prescription queries, stock availability or patient requests, and understand when something needs to be escalated Maintaining a clean and organised workplace - You’ll help keep the pharmacy and work areas clean, tidy and organised, following appropriate health, safety and infection-control procedures Confidentiality and professionalism - You’ll handle sensitive patient information and will be expected to maintain confidentiality, communicate professionally and follow the standards expected of someone working in healthcare

Training:

Off-the-job training will follow the time allocations outlined in the occupational standard.

The apprentice will spend their working hours on off-the-job training, which will include attending Matthew Boulton College for their college-based learning. This training will support the practical experience gained in the workplace and help the apprentice develop the knowledge and skills required to complete their Level 3 Pharmacy Technician apprenticeship.



Training Outcome:

Start as a Level 3 Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, completing your apprenticeship while gaining valuable workplace experience.

Once qualified, you can progress to become a Qualified Pharmacy Technician and build your experience within the pharmacy sector.

With further experience, you can progress to a Senior Pharmacy Technician role and develop specialist skills in areas such as Hospital, Community or Clinical Pharmacy.

With continued development, you can progress into Lead, Specialist or Pharmacy Management roles.

Monday, 9:00am - 3:00pm. Tuesday, 9:00am - 3:00pm. Wednesday, 9:00am - 5:00pm. Thursday, 9:00am - 3:00pm. Friday, 9:00am - 3:00pm. Saturday, 9:00am - 1:00pm (Occasional Saturday).
