Apprentice Pharmacy Technician

Support the safe ordering, receiving, storage and supply of medicines and pharmaceutical products Assemble, dispense and issue prescribed items accurately Check prescriptions for validity, safety and clarity, escalating concerns where needed Carry out pharmaceutical calculations to support safe medicine supply Maintain accurate records and follow pharmacy procedures and confidentiality requirements Provide clear, person-centred advice to patients, carers and healthcare professionals Support patients to use their medicines safely and effectively Work as part of the pharmacy and wider healthcare team Help with day-to-day pharmacy operations, stock control and workflow Follow health and safety, safeguarding and governance procedures Report errors, near misses and concerns in line with local procedures Support audit, quality improvement and service development activity Communicate professionally with colleagues, patients and other healthcare professionals Take responsibility for your own learning and development Respond appropriately to medical emergencies when required

Training:

Laser Pharmacy will provide full training for the Level 3 Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship. Apprentices will learn how to support the safe and effective running of the pharmacy, including dispensing medicines, helping patients, managing stock and following pharmacy procedures. They will develop practical skills in customer service, communication and teamwork through a blend of on-the-job and off-the-job training, with the aim of becoming a qualified Pharmacy Technician.

Off-the-job training will be delivered through a day-release model, with the apprentice attending Matthew Boulton College in Birmingham one day per week.

Training Outcome:

After completing the Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship, apprentices can register as a qualified Pharmacy Technician and progress into roles in community, hospital or primary care pharmacy. With experience, they may move into senior technician, team leader, accuracy checking technician or specialist support roles, or continue their development through further training in pharmacy or healthcare.
