Trainee Laboratory Technician - Degree Apprentice

The Laboratory Technician plays an important role in supporting in-vitro Genetic Toxicology studies by preparing reagents and media, calibrating equipment, maintaining accurate records, organising laboratory supplies, and helping to ensure our laboratories operate efficiently and to the highest standards.

You'll receive full training and support from our experienced team, learning how to work within a GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) accredited laboratory and gaining insight into the critical work that supports scientific research and regulatory studies.

Specifically, you will be:

Supporting day-to-day laboratory operations, including media preparation, equipment calibration, stock control, receipt of deliveries, environmental monitoring, and general laboratory housekeeping Learning and applying Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) principles to ensure high standards of quality, compliance, and accuracy Following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Health & Safety requirements at all times Maintaining accurate laboratory records and documentation with a high level of attention to detail Organising and managing laboratory consumables to ensure supplies are available when needed Working closely with scientists and technicians to support study work and laboratory activities Developing new technical skills and scientific knowledge through practical training and on-the-job learning

Training:
Apprentices work full-time whilst studying towards a BSc (Hons) in Laboratory scientist (Bioscience) from Manchester Metropolitan University, as well as a Level 6 Laboratory Scientist Degree Apprenticeship Students study a tutor-supported e-distance learning curriculum and attend residential schools. The work-based projects, negotiated with employers, offer students the opportunity to apply their learning directly to their organisation The programme is primarily taught through tutor-supported online study, part-time over four years Apprentices will attend a two-day induction at the University to help them get to know each other and balance undergraduate study with working full-time. They will also attend a week-long residential at our campus in central Manchester once a year, in addition to a two-day mini-residential in the first year

This apprenticeship offers a fantastic opportunity to build a long-term career within a leading Contract Research Organisation (CRO). Successful apprentices may have the opportunity to secure a permanent position upon completion of the programme.

Working Hours :
Normal hours of work are 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday inclusive with an unpaid lunch break of 30 minutes. There is reasonable flexibility to start and finish the workday anytime between 7 am and 6 pm.
