Property Maintenance Operative Apprentice
The role blends paid, on-the-job training with learning. Your tasks will include maintaining and repairing buildings and structures within our parks and open spaces, as well as at our community buildings and tenanted properties such as the Marina Theatre and cafés in our parks.
Work is sometimes based outside and undertaken throughout the year, so you will be required to work in all weathers. You will start in a ‘hands-on’ role covering a range of practical tasks, with specialist skills in carpentry and joinery, plumbing, plastering, brick and block work, painting and decorating being learnt through progression and college day release.
A wide range of machinery and tools are used, and additional training may be required depending on the nature of the work undertaken.

Training:
The apprentice will undertake a Property Maintenance Operative level 2 apprenticeship. Learning will be mainly ‘on the job’ in Lowestoft with further learning, training and assessment taking place once a week at Suffolk New College (rural campus). You must be able to commit to travelling to the campus once a week and as required, in addition to this.
Additional mandatory training in Manual Handling, Asbestos Awareness, Legionella Awareness, First Aid and Equality and Diversity will be completed.

Career progression includes having opportunities to work in the property maintenance industry in the public or private sector.
Employer Description:
Lowestoft Town Council was formed in 2017 via a Reorganisation Order. One of the assets it is responsible for is the Town Hall - a Grade II listed landmark and the most prominent building on the historic High Street of Lowestoft, which has been boarded up since its previous owners moved out in 2015. Lowestoft Town Council has been successful in gaining funding for the restoration and adaption of the building as well as the delivery of a comprehensive programme of heritage activities that will enable participants to learn and engage with the heritage of the town and bring communities together enhancing community pride. Funding support has come from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Towns Fund, East Suffolk Council as well as Lowestoft Town Council.
Working Hours :
Monday to Thursday 8am-4pm, Friday 8am-3:30pm.
