Lead Project Accountant
Lead Project Accountant Rugeley, Midlands | £50,000 - £55,000 + bonus | Permanent, Full-Time | Hybrid |Defense Sector We are working with a renowned aerospace and defense organization in supporting their recruitment of an experienced finance professional to join them as a Lead Project Accountant.
This role will see the postholder working alongside program managers and senior planners on some of the UK’s largest defense contracts with value up to £300M.
This will include the maintenance of program financials working timely and accurately and undertaking financial tasks such as revenue recognition, invoicing, cost, funding, gross margins, programmatic risks as well as monitor costs on a weekly basis ensuring that actuals are within budget.
Role Responsibilities
Manage a small Program Accounting team
Ensure that program costs and estimates to complete are reviewed on a monthly basis, supporting / challenging Program Accountants, Program Managers and Work Package Managers
Ensure the review of weekly/monthly timesheet bookings against programs to ensure accuracy of labour costs
Publish monthly Contract Status Review (CSRs) for agreed programs
Perform variance analyses on costs, scope and schedules, and report on related risks
Identify variances and support project management in resolution of outstanding issues
Review the forward load across the program portfolio and monitor actual resources available against the required resources.
Highlight the financial impact of any imbalance in load
Prepare financial customer reporting as required under program contracts
Monitor cashflow reporting and gross margin analysis for individual programs, portfolios across the wider business
Support Program Managers with customer interface when requested
Support / guide Program Managers with Project and Excel reporting tools
Manage / oversee program budgeting and forecasting process
Oversee the preparation and submission of the annual R&D Expenditure Credit information
Provide program reports to Program managers and Senior Management as requested
Oversee formal quarterly Program Cost Reviews across the portfolios
Reviews and challenge program inputs into the FP&A processes / budgets / forecasts
Ensure that program invoicing is completed on schedule, monitor unpaid invoices and assist in the resolution of any overdue customer invoices
Support month-end close processes
Person Specification
Fully Qualified Accountant – ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA
A sound understanding of program cost accounting / project accounting is essential
The ability and desire to interpret financial information will be beneficial to the successful candidate as we are looking to develop the role further in the future.
Experience with GAAP, IFRS accounting standards.
Problem-solving skills are crucial to analysing past and current performance and recommending objectives to improve productivity and profitability
Due to the nature of the organisations work, SC Clearance will be required for this role.
