Apprentice Groundworker
Assist with site preparation and clearance
Learn and apply excavation, drainage, and foundation techniques
Install kerbs, paving, and concrete structures
Support with laying pipes and other groundwork duties
Work safely in accordance with health and safety regulations
Operate and maintain hand and power tools
Follow instructions from supervisors and contribute to team tasks
Attend college or training sessions as part of the apprenticeship program
A keen interest in civil engineering and construction
Willingness to learn and work outdoors in various weather conditions
Good communication and teamwork skills
A positive and proactive attitude
Ability to follow instructions and work safely
GCSEs in maths and English (preferred but not essential)
Training:

A career as a groundworker in civil engineering typically begins in an entry-level role, supporting site teams on construction projects such as roads, foundations, drainage systems, and utilities. In the early stages, individuals build practical skills in excavation, concreting, kerbing, and pipe laying, while gaining essential site safety knowledge and industry qualifications such as CSCS cards and NVQs. With experience, groundworkers can progress to skilled or senior positions, taking on more complex tasks and greater responsibility for quality and productivity.
