Apprentice Port Health, Safety and Environment Technician
The Apprentice Port Health, Safety and Environment Technician will support all PSS health, safety and culture output including safety alerts and bulletins, industry safety statistics, campaigns and briefings, and updating industry guidance.
The role includes visiting ports throughout the UK to support safety meetings and inspections. In the second year, there is an opportunity for a placement on site a member port.
After initial training and guidance, the key tasks include:
Creating safety alerts and bulletins. Creating and posting content on the PSS website and social media relating to health, safety and culture. Manage data submissions from members – acknowledging receipt, checking data and filing accordingly. In the second year, this will include basic data analysis. Assisting in planning and running national Port Safety Group meetings, including attendance at those held in-person at UK port locations. Liaising with members on health, safety and culture issues. Assist with the management of the membership database. Participate in member visits (nationally) alongside other PSS employees. Provide administrative support to the Health, Safety and Culture Lead. Upon successful completion, you will achieve the Safety, Health and Environment Technician level 3 apprenticeship certification In addition to the apprenticeship certification, you will achieve the IOSH Accident Investigation accreditation On-the-job training (in the workplace) will be led by the PSS Health, Safety and Culture Lead. This is your day-to-day role and will include the duties provided above Off-the-job training will be delivered by the selected training provider via remote workshops and tutorials. Meetings with a learning coach will be scheduled into your apprenticeship programme and additional meetings to support your learning can be arranged as required You will be assigned a workplace mentor at PSS who will meet regularly with you throughout your apprenticeship
Training Outcome:
There may be the opportunity for full-time employment with PSS upon successful completion of the apprenticeship and this will be reviewed before the two-year contract ends.

Working Hours :
Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:00. This role could be hybrid following the probationary period and will be discussed at interview stage. Travel and overnight stays may be required on occasion.
