Calibration Technician

Calibration / Metrology Technician (pref.

Elec / Instrumentation bias) is required for a Permanent role for an established global company in the Birmingham / West Bromwich area.

Salary is £18,000 - £24,000 (DoE) and excellent benefits (see below).

The Calibration Technician will be working 40 hours (Mon–Fri Days, possible flexi-time) based over the core business hours.

The client will also consider candidates who have may have part completed an quality / calibration apprenticeship, or recently completed an electrical / mechanical apprenticeship and or have recently passed relevant engineering qualifications.

Tis position may also suit a candidate with an interest in Calibration / Metrology who has some experience of using electrical test equipment, dimensional, torque and or instrumentation measuring equipment.

Applicants must have a full UK driving licence, be methodical, numerate, organised, possess great communication (verbal and written) skills, PC literate (Excel).

Previous B2B customer interaction – face to face as well as by phone/email is also desirable.

Overtime usually available (M-F @ 1x, Sat @ 1.5x and Sun & B/hols @ 2x, B/Hol can be taken in lieu if worked)

Objective: To work as part of the laboratory team in providing our customers with excellent, technically competent service and support and to calibrate our customers’ metrology equipment sent to the laboratory within the agreed timescales.

While the individual is part of a team they will may also be lone-working in customer sites within the appropriate coverage area.

There is also a requirement to aid in development of all internal metrology processes; this will aid the business in achieving further UKAS accreditations in the future.

The successful Calibration / Metrology Technician day to day duties will include:

To calibrate electronic / electrical, instrumentation, physical, torque and or dimensional / mechanical measuring instruments both in laboratory and on customer sites.
To provide technical support and guidance to external customers, internal members of staff working within the metrology laboratory and to the wider business when required.
Identify solutions to customer problems and communicate them effectively, such solutions to include but not be limited to advice on calibration cycles, test points and equipment usage.
Determine changes to individual customer contracts in terms of equipment covered, customer contact information and site requirements.

Ensuring that such changes are authorised by the customer and that the companies electronic and paper systems are updated accordingly
Ensure that customer reports are completed professionally and clearly articulate the outcome and recommendations of any visit.
Documenting and inputting data / results onto computer software and producing calibration certificates.
Ensure that all stock, company equipment and tools are kept clean safe, secure and maintained to high level.
To undertake and attend training courses necessary to develop and maintain competence to undertake the role.
To observe and comply with all Company policies including but not limited to Health and Safety, Car Policy, Expenses, Ethics Policy, IT User policy and all policies and appendices within the Contract of Employment.
Flexibility to work approved overtime if required.


To be suitable for this Calibration Technician role you must have the following experience / skills / characteristics:

Recently used electronic / electrical test equipment, instrumentation, physical, torque and or dimensional / mechanical measuring instruments.
5 GCSE qualifications at grades A-C, or equivalent
Hardworking, willingness to learn, pursue self-development and provide a quality service to customers.
PC literate in MS Word and Excel.
Good interpersonal communication skills (verbal & written).
Able to work as part of a team or alone with the minimum of supervision.
Full UK driving licence.


The ideal Calibration / Metrology Technician will have:

Recent experience of calibrating any of the following: DMM’s / multi-meters, frequency generators, oscilloscopes, pressure and temperature instrumentation such as pressure, vacuum and flow gauges, thermocouples, PRT’s, ovens / furnaces, micrometers, vernier callipers, DTI’s, engineer squares, gauges (height, plug, ring, screw etc.), torque, mass / weights, force gauges, hardness testers
Relevant mechanical / electrical engineering qualification such as HNC, NVQ / BTEC / C&G Level 3 etc.
CCNSG Passport to safety.
Completed relevant apprenticeship
Previous experience of working in the field / customer facing experience (pref.

B2B).
Previous experience of calibrating to UKAS standards.
Knowledge of importing / exporting from Excel databases and report generation from databases.
Previous experience of working in the calibration, aerospace, automotive, engineering or manufacturing sectors
