Experienced Mechanical Engineer – Instrument Design

Newton Colmore is working with a tech company in Cambridge that manufacture a variety of instruments and systems, assisting them in their search for a mechanical design engineer.

We are looking for a talented Mechanical Engineer to join a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers working on breakthrough technology for several different sectors, from airport scanners through to radar systems. You will own the full product lifecycle — from requirements capture through design, development, testing, and delivery to production — on projects ranging from proof-of-concept work to working prototypes.

What you will be doing.

Using SolidWorks and other 3D CAD tools, you will design a wide variety of solutions including products, assembly jigs, test equipment, and instrumentation. You will also present proposed solutions through sketches, animations, and renderings, and get hands-on with build, testing, and troubleshooting.

Core skills required for this technical role.

3D CAD (SolidWorks, Catia, Creo or AutoCAD) CAD design & manufacturing Design for manufacture Welding & fabrication design Thermal simulation / modelling PDM experience or familiarity

Desirable experience (not essential)

Electronics / PCB integration Supply chain liaison Ruggedised design Miniaturised / small form factor Active / passive cooling Additive manufacture
