Level 2 Engineering Operative Apprentice (Mechanical Manufacturing pathway)
The Engineering Operative Apprentice role is designed to develop practical engineering and manufacturing skills across Solomon Commercials’ core production departments. The apprentice will rotate through multiple areas of the business, gaining hands-on experience in commercial vehicle bodywork, fabrication, assembly, finishing, electrics, and technical support, while building a strong foundation in engineering principles, quality, safety, and teamwork.
Key Responsibilities:
Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and work instructions Using hand tools, tape measures, and basic measuring equipment Supporting assembly, fabrication, chassis, finishing and engineering activities Assisting with electrical and technical tasks where appropriate Following health, safety, and quality procedures at all times Attending college and completing apprenticeship courseworkGeneral Responsibilities:
Work as part of a team and support colleagues across departments Follow health, safety, and environmental procedures at all times Maintain a positive attitude to learning and development Attend college and complete all apprenticeship coursework and assessmentsSkills & Knowledge Developed:

Training:
Level 2 Engineering Operative Apprenticeship (Mechanical Manufacturing pathway) Day release / block release training with Burnley College On-the-job mentoring across multiple production departments Clear progression opportunities into Level 3 apprenticeships (e.g. fabrication, electrics, engineering support) subject to performance
Training Outcome:
On successful completion of the apprenticeship, opportunities may be available for permanent roles in specific departments and progression into Level 3 apprenticeships in specialist engineering disciplines
