Design Manager

A leading structural steel and architectural metalwork specialist based in Oxfordshire is currently seeking a permanent Design Manager to take full operational ownership of the design department, ensuring all structural steel and architectural metalwork packages are delivered accurately and on schedule.

Start Date: ASAP
Salary: £55,000 – £65,000 per annum
Hours: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM (Monday – Friday)

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and manage a team of three structural/architectural designers. Oversee the production of 3D models and fabrication drawings. Coordinate with the internal production and project management teams to ensure design feasibility. Manage the design schedule and resource allocation to meet project milestones. Act as the technical point of contact for clients, engineers, and main contractors. Drive quality standards and technical excellence across all design outputs. (Note: No site surveys are required for this role).

Requirements:

Proven experience in a Design Management or Senior Draughtsman role within the steelwork sector. Strong technical background in both structural steel and architectural metalwork (stairs, balustrades, etc.). Experience managing or mentoring a team of designers. Proficiency in 3D detailing software (Tekla or Advance Steel preferred, but any platform background considered). Excellent communication and organizational skills.
