School Sports Coach Apprentice (Level 4)

Teaching and Coaching Support:
Supervise, coach, or assist in delivering curriculum and co-curricular sports sessions across a range of sports, venues, and age groups. This includes a commitment to Saturday morning fixtures. Provide tailored support to students of all abilities, encouraging skill development, confidence, and enthusiasm. Using departmental resources, contribute to coaching core sports, with a specialism in at least one of hockey, netball, football, or cricket. Promote participation, teamwork, and positive sporting behaviour in all sessions.

Fixtures, Events & Co-Curricular Sport:
Support the organisation and supervision of midweek and occasional weekend fixtures, tournaments, and festivals. Accompany teams to home and away matches, assisting with coaching and logistics, and supervising students during transport to venues such as Urnfield Sports Ground. Contribute to the wider co-curricular programme through clubs, practices, and before or after-school activities. Assist with setting up and clearing equipment for lessons, fixtures, and events.

Pupil Support & Pastoral Care:
Develop positive, supportive relationships with pupils, acting as an approachable role model. Provide guidance, feedback, and motivation to students of all abilities during lessons and activities. Promote the school’s values, sportsmanship, and high standards of behaviour at all times.

Departmental & Administrative Duties:
Assist with administrative tasks including team selection, fixture lists, team sheets, results recording, transport arrangements, facility bookings, and communication with families. Help ensure sports facilities and equipment are safe, well-maintained, and prepared through regular checks. Contribute to departmental meetings, planning sessions, and staff briefings as required.

Continuing Professional Development:
Reflect on and evaluate personal performance, demonstrating a commitment to ongoing professional growth through training and development opportunities. Actively engage in the performance review process.

General Responsibilities:
Uphold high standards of safeguarding, welfare, and duty of care at all times. Maintain good order and discipline, ensuring students’ health and safety both on school premises and during authorised activities elsewhere. Attend relevant meetings, including departmental, staff, pastoral, and parent meetings. Promote the school through curriculum and marketing events. Provide cover for absent colleagues when required and support the wider school community by attending productions, trips, and events, contributing fully to school life.

Employer Description:

Tormead School is an academically selective independent school for 800 girls aged 4–18, located a short stroll from the historic town centre of Guildford, just 40 minutes by train to London. 

Sport at Tormead continues to thrive across both the Prep and Senior School, with pupils regularly competing in hockey, netball, football and cricket at school, county and regional level.

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join us as a Level 4 Sports Coach Apprentice, supported by Aspire. This apprenticeship offers a fantastic opportunity to develop advanced coaching skills, gain hands-on experience, and contribute to the organisation of fixtures and co-curricular activities while working towards a nationally recognised qualification.



Working Hours :
40 hours per week, Monday – Saturday (on a rotational basis). Term time only, to August 2028.
