EC&I Engineering Apprenticeship

Working under the guidance of experienced technicians and engineers, you will develop practical skills across electrical systems, PLCs, instrumentation, and control equipment while adhering to safety, quality, and regulatory standards.

The role involves assisting with inspections, calibrations, commissioning activities, and routine maintenance tasks, as well as learning to interpret electrical drawings, loop diagrams, and control schematics. You will actively contribute to site activities, participate in training and college-based learning, and demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, continuous improvement, and professional development.

You will: 

Instrumentation tasks

Calibrating:

Temperature sensors on boilers Pressure transmitters on steam lines Flow meters (fuel, air, water) Checking emissions monitoring equipment

Electrical tasks

Motor checks (conveyors moving biomass fuel) Testing control panels and MCCs (Motor Control Centres) Fault finding on pumps, fans, and feeders

Planned maintenance

Replacing faulty instruments
Loop checks (signal testing from sensor to control room)

Breakdown support

Biomass plants are mechanical-heavy → lots of reactive work

Control system exposure

Observing PLC/SCADA systems (sometimes assisting senior techs)

Training Outcome:

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship there is the opportunity of a permanent position in the following areas:
