Level 3 Metal Fabricator apprentice

As an apprentice you would be expected to learn all aspects of metal fabrication from interpreting 3D computer models in order to produce you own drawings and profiles, predicting and mitigating distortion, building jigs and fixtures, generating the shapes required and all aspects of welding.

Because we are a small company an apprentice would also be expected to assist in the assembly and testing of some of the larger rigs and work with composite and plastic structures where appropriate.

Duties will include:

Operate CAD software, read drawings, accurately measure and mark materials Use plasma cutters, guillotine and other metal cutting and preparation equipment Shape materials using a brake press, hydraulic press, rolls, English wheel, shrinker stretchers bead rollers and by hand. Weld, braze and solder materials together using TIG welders, MIG welders, oxyacetylene, propane and spot welders Comply with company health and safely policies to prevent injuries to yourself and work colleagues

Training:
You will be working towards a Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard in Metal Fabrication This apprenticeship consists of a mixture of off the job training and on the job mentoring and development within the workplace You will be expected to attend Cornwall College Camborne on a weekly basis

Training Outcome:
Job with the company as a full time employee. Possible career progression within that

This position offers a rare opportunity to learn a wide variety of manufacturing and welding techniques within one company utilising the latest build technologies alongside the tradition sheet metalwork principles required to make one off structures. This position would suit a creative, motivated person with an interest in aerospace technology, possessing good manual dexterity and an understanding that learning the skills required is a long term commitment by all parties.

Working Hours :
Monday to Friday 9am-5.30pm with a half hour lunch break.
