Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship – Engineering and Manufacturing Support Technician
During your apprenticeship, you’ll spend a significant portion of your first year at Warwickshire College Group’s Trident College based in Warwickshire (CV34 6SW).
Here you’ll be assigned a Work Based Learning Manager (WBLM) and a JLR early careers cohort leader to support you throughout your apprenticeship journey.
Year 1: Foundation Phase - In your first year, you'll focus on building your foundational knowledge of engineering and essential workplace competencies to ensure safety. You’ll spend time in workshops developing practical skills such as welding, electrical installation, milling, and fault finding. You’ll also take part in regular plant placements where you’ll have the opportunity to apply these newly acquired skills in a real-world environment. You’ll also begin studying your Level 3 BTEC qualification Year 2: Academic Knowledge and Skills Development - In your second year, you’ll divide your time between your workplace and training provider through block release. During this time, you’ll continue your Level 3 BTEC qualification and put your academic knowledge into action while working on site. Year 3: Academic Knowledge and Competence Development - In your third year you will be based fully within the plant focusing on developing your skills beyond the basics and working on real-world projects on-site at JLR Year 4: Continuation of Competence Development and End Point Assessment - In your final year, you’ll complete your apprenticeship and prepare for your End Point Assessment, supported every step of the way by your Early Careers Cohort Leader and WBLMThis exciting programme is designed to help you build practical skills, deepen your technical knowledge, and develop key workplace behaviours like teamwork and problem-solving.
Training:
Engineering Operations (EO) (Gaydon, Whitley or Ryton)
Engineering Operations (EO) are at the heart of JLR Engineering. Involved at every stage of the engineering process, they underpin technical innovation and product delivery with programme management, tools and processes and specialist technical services to deliver our world class products.
A diverse team, EO harness a variety of skill sets, from project management, information management and data analytics, to building and testing prototypes. By joining Engineering Operations, you will make a difference to what we do.
As an apprentice within Engineering Operations, you could join one of us in one of the following teams:
Tool Room:
You will join the team as a CNC Machinist / Fabricator / Modelmaker where you’ll develop a deep knowledge of prototype manufacturing techniques to allow the team to continue to deliver porotype properties at a high level of quality You will learn about prototype part / model manufacturing, CNC machining, welding, fabrication skills and prototype build and assembly modelmakingFixtures and Tooling:
As part of this team you will learn how to assemble tooling fixtures while validating it with co-ordinate measuring equipment utilising Technical Drawing and Digital software packages You will develop skills in tool making, machining, sheet metal and fabrication while gaining problem solving skills working with such techniques as root cause analysisDesign, Analysis and Manufacturing:
This role as a multiskilled machinist is strategically essential to the continued growth and development of the team. In the role you will learn how to weld, turn and carryout CNC milling. You will read engineering drawings bringing them to life. All of this will be done while learning to operate best-in-class health and safety practices Technology Facility and Development – This team is responsible for the design and delivery of facility components, test rigs and the infrastructure required in support of the core test areas delivering physical test plans The area is also responsible for the development and delivery of key new facilities, technology, infrastructure and strategy for Build and Test Operations, leading projects from concept through to delivery. The role will see you be involved in the manufacture of electrical harnesses, panels and cabinets in support of test activities and new facility delivery This will range from facility level industrial electrical installations all the way to specific system level development. In addition, the role will involve the reactive support for lab-based test facilities, providing electrical knowledge and problem solving to support issue resolutionTraining Outcome:
Move into a permanent role such as Engineering Technician, Prototype Technician, CNC Machinist, Fabricator, Toolmaker or Electrical Technician within Engineering Operations Specialise within areas like Tool Room, Fixtures and Tooling, Design, Analysis and Manufacturing, or Technology Facility and Development Progress over time into senior technician or specialist roles, supporting more complex projects and mentoring newer apprentices Develop into roles with wider responsibility, such as team leader, project support or coordination positions across Engineering Operations and other JLR functions Continue your learning through higher apprenticeships, professional qualifications or degree-level study, with support from JLR’s development programmes

Working Hours :
Your typical hours at the training provider will be from Monday - Thursday and reduced hours on Friday's 8.00am - 4.45pm; you will receive a confirmed timetable upon joining us.
