Apprentice Environmental Technician

In the role you will help maintain and improve the Environmental Management System, assist with monitoring, reporting and auditing activities, and contribute to the effective management of waste,
emissions, energy use and environmental performance across the site. Through structured training and hands-on experience, you will play an active role in promoting responsible environmental practices and supporting continuous improvement.

You’ll be supporting the Environmental Team in keeping the site compliant with environmental laws, permits and internal standards. The role involves organising environmental meetings, preparing agendas, taking minutes and managing calendars. You’ll help compile and submit annual permit returns and waste-related reports, take part in internal and external audits, and carry out monthly site inspections to monitor environmental performance. Day-to-day tasks include maintaining the Waste Transfer Note inventory, checking waste invoices, obtaining waste certificates from suppliers and assisting with incident responses by gathering relevant information.

You’ll work with different departments to collect water-usage data, coordinate environmental training and keep training records accurate. The role also supports energy reporting, emissions monitoring and ongoing improvements to the Environmental Management System. You may liaise with regulators, suppliers and contractors, help deliver training sessions and toolbox talks, and handle general administrative duties. As your experience grows, you’ll take on additional responsibilities suited to your development.

Training Outcome:

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship and competency review it would be expected the individual would move into a full time role.
