Heritage Engineering Technician Apprenticeship (Classic Vehicle Maintenance/Restoration)
Combining old-school mechanical engineering with cutting-edge technology, you will assist and learn from highly skilled engineers about the maintenance, restoration, and preservation of a world-class collection of armoured vehicles.
Training includes the history and development of vehicle systems, components and materials, servicing, repair and renovation of transmissions and drivetrains, chassis, suspension, steering, braking and electrics, Technical Drawing, welding, business studies and advanced diagnostics.
Training:
Qualification: The ‘HET Level 3 Apprenticeship’ is a nationally recognised qualification delivered by ‘HSA’ from its academies based at ‘Bicester Heritage’ in Oxfordshire and ‘Brooklands Motor Museum’ in Surrey. Delivered over 36 months on a block release basis, you will attend your academy on average every 5 weeks for a 5-day block of training running from Monday to Friday, the other 80% of the time you will be working with your employer. If required, the employer will cover the accommodation and travel costs.
Training Outcome:
On completion of the Programme, you will be qualified as a Heritage Engineering Technician. Employment with The Tank Museum after completing the apprenticeship is not guaranteed. However, if a suitable position becomes available and your performance and conduct during the apprenticeship meet the required standards, you may be offered a role.

Prospects for progression range from specialist technical roles to management positions and international work opportunities.

The Tank Museum is the regimental museum of the Royal Tank Regiment and the corps museum of the Royal Armoured Corps. Our purpose is to tell the story of tanks and the crews who served in them. The Tank Museum is a registered charity based in Bovington, Dorset and houses one of the world’s most diverse armoured vehicle collections. The Museum has a state-of-the art workshop that has been built to maintain, repair, conserve and restore its fleet of working tanks and armoured vehicles which operate in the museums arena. It also conserves and restores vehicles for static display in the Museum. Vehicles are demonstrated during the school holidays and at three large tank events every year. There are eight permanent exhibitions at The Tank Museum, and the Museum attracts over two hundred thousand visitors each year.
Working Hours :
Monday – Friday between 8.30am - 5pm + assisting at events.
