General Farm Worker and Egg Production Apprentice

Working with laying birds, checking husbandry and health and completing a small number of records Using an egg packing machine and sorting out second quality eggs and cleaning down the egg packing area Work is often as part of a small team of two or three on tasks at the farm to include repairs to equipment, range checks and fencing, groundworks, tidying, cleaning of vehicles and collecting data such as meter reads, images or samples for SFI or Countryside Stewardship Tractor work and potential loader work as experience and training develops on our arable enterprises and on general tasks This is a varied role for a motivated person interested in learning about free range egg production and care of hens but also wishing to gain wider skills and experience relating to general farm and arable tasks. Tractor and tele handler training and arable tasks will be introduced according to experience. There is routine work with the laying enterprise, to include hen husbandry and egg packing and a variety of other activities depending on the time of year

Training:
Level 2 General Farm Worker This will also include functional skills if required End point assessment Certificate of completion of the standard

You may have to attend formal college sessions (if English & maths are required), but not necessary for 19+.

You will learn the knowledge, skills and behaviours related to the apprenticeship standard.

Training will take place within the work place supported by the assessor through regular visits and reviews. An online portfolio is also used where tasks are set and progress is monitored.



Training Outcome:

It is unknown at present whether further work will be available but this may be the case. If no permanent opportunity then the employer will be willing to assist with a CV and support with applications for positions, potentially through own networks.



Employer Description:

E&S Clarke were established in 2012 but the family has farmed at Eudon Burnell since 1961, initially mixed dairying and arable moving to egg production using own milled feeds and arable in 1998. The farm has free range laying hens with approximately 127Ha of arable area owned and tenanted plus 60Ha farmed in a CFA . Crops grown are Oats, Field Beans, OSR and Wheat. Land is managed sensitively with 25Ha permanent grassland, established woodlands, hedges and legume rich swards present and is currently in Mid Tier CSS and SFI



Working Hours :
Monday to Friday 8am– 1pm, 2pm– 5pm Every 3rd Weekend 8am– 12pm with one weekday off during that pay week.
