Perm - Band 7 Senior Speech and Language Therapist - London

Maxxima’s permanent team are recruiting for a Band 7 Senior Speech and Language Therapist, based in London.

This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the UK’s largest private hospitals, working in SALT, reporting to the Speech and Language Therapy Lead
and accountable to the Director of Clinical Services.

The successful candidate will provide a specialist Speech and Language Therapy clinical role for patients and to act as a resource for Therapies, Nursing and other MDT colleagues, as well as  support the speech and language therapy lead in research, education and service development/innovation within these clinical areas in conjunction with the MDT. To develop collaborative working practices with the MDT. They will work with other professionals to improve knowledge & promote best clinical practice to all staff and utilise advanced clinical skills in the comprehensive assessment of patients with diverse or complex presentations/multiple pathologies in order to provide an accurate diagnosis and formulate a management plan.

Salary: £48,998 - £58,790 DOE

Location: Central London

Employment Type: Permanent, Full time

Hours: 37.5 per week, Monday to Friday

On a typical day you will:

- Provide specialist Speech and Language Therapy across the clinic including the head and neck, outpatient, and critical care services
- Act as a specialist practitioner demonstrating advanced knowledge and skills within the field of speech and language therapy (this will include the integration of research evidence into practice via the process of advanced clinical reasoning and decision-making)
- Use advanced theoretical and practical knowledge to analyse highly complex and sometimes conflicting information to develop integrated and collaborative care pathways
- Utilise advanced assessment skills, recognise the need for appropriate investigations according to the patient’s clinical need and perform these investigations, (including video fluoroscopy and Fibreoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallow (FEES)), and follow up the results of these investigations and organise appropriate and timely management
- To provide appropriate and timely written progress reports of the speech and language therapy needs of patients, in line with NICE guidance and local policy, utilising appropriate outcome measures and rehabilitation prescription. 
- To maintain accurate, comprehensive, and up-to-date documentation in line with departmental and RCSLT standards, including communication of assessment and treatment results to appropriate disciplines in the form of reports and letters.
- Where appropriate, to coordinate patient management, onward referral, and discharge planning in order to maximise potential and improve outcomes.

This may include advising patients, carers, relatives, other health professionals and medical colleagues. 
- To manage clinical risk within own caseload at all times and ensure clinical risk is effectively managed across areas of responsibility. 
- To provide outpatient assessment and treatment to a voice caseload.
- To provide clinical support for patients at King Edward VII hospital in line with Service Level Agreements.
- To participate in the on-call rota.

Skills & Experience:

- Able to demonstrate high levels of communication skills to coach, mediate, negotiate, present and train
- Excellent presentation, proactive, can work effectively within a team and use initiative
- Influencing & negotiating skills
- Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent, Health and Care Professions Council- Licence to practice registered
- Member Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
- Evidence of CPD
- Experience of working with adult SLT caseload
- Experience of working in the management of an outpatient voice caseload
- Experience in the management of patients with tracheostomies
- Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of national policies, procedures, and current research
- Expert knowledge of range of assessment tools and therapeutic interventions
- Awareness of current clinical issues
