Day Centre Support Worker Apprentice - adults with acquired brain injury
Have a morning meeting / briefing with staff to discuss the aims for the day.
Prepare the room and activity for the morning session.
Support clients in getting off the buses and where needed escort clients to their allocated floors.
Make hot and cold drinks for clients and chat with them.
Support or run the morning activity.
Help prepare clients' lunches where necessary and eat lunch with clients and help start conversations.
Support clients to use the toilet where needed.
Prepare and set up for the afternoon session.
Run or support the afternoon session.
Assist clients back onto the buses for their journeys home.
Record and type notes about clients progress on the database.
Help clean the day centre ready for the next day.
Report any issues and concerns to senior staff/line manager.
Maintain your learner log and complete coursework.
Training:
There will be training on the job where you will learn from senior staff.
The apprenticeship itself will be a mixture of online and in-person learning (one-to-one with a tutor).
Training schedule will be decided by line manager and tutor but will include reading policies, manual handling training, brain injury awareness training (run by Headway UK), writing risk assessments training and many other training opportunties throughout the year.
Training Outcome:
Subject to funding, you could be employed as a permanent member of staff at Headway Luton.
Further qualifications can be taken.

We have a day centre in Luton town centre, five days a week, and Houghton Regis on Wednesdays.
We are a charity that supports survivors of an acquired brain injury - that is a brain injury that occured sometime in their life but not whilst in the womb.
As well as our day centre, we have a Community Support Team who help clients with a range of personal, social, emotional and financial problems.
Working Hours :
Hours to be decided within our following opening times:
Monday to Thursday 8am to 3:30pm
Friday 8am to 1pm
