Construction Manager - Midlands

JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE – Construction Manager AREA – Midlands WAGE - £50,000 - £60,000 + Car Allowance KEY TASKS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Responsible for managing the team delivering either one particularly complex project or a number of simpler projects concurrently as appointed to them ensuring that at all times those sites operate in accordance with the management system as it is applied locally.
Responsible for the effective implementation of the safety management system as it is amended locally.
Responsible for ensuring all divisional and group process is adhered to where they relate directly and indirectly to the delivery of projects within the area of responsibility.
Responsible for building and maintaining good quality, professional and productive relationships with the clients, suppliers and colleagues when delivering projects.
Responsible for the direct line management of Site Managers and support team staff as they are appointed to and are involved in the projects or taking on the Site Manager role when required due to due workload pressures, absence or shortfall in resources.
Responsible for achieving reasonably set operational targets on projects within area of responsibility using process and procedure which is passed down and embedded within the wider integrated management system.

Where outcomes and process conflict, responsible for making those conflicts known to the divisional senior management team with evidence to provide substantive professional statement.
Must routinely report to the Contracts Manager or any of the senior divisional management team high level progress and key outcomes from projects.
Must take active control of decisions as they relate to allocated projects including but not limited to procurement, purchasing, resource use, programming as defined within process and always in accordance with the Delegation of Authority.
Must routinely produce any appropriate reports about the performance of projects as and when requested by the Contracts Manager in a format which is understandable and clear for all.
Must represent Contracting North in meetings with internal and external bodies; specifically other divisions within our clients, subcontractors, other contractors and industry bodies as and when required.
Must assist colleagues, superiors and reports to fulfil their own personal objectives when practicable.
Must continually seek out opportunity for improvement in delivery of projects in the short, medium and long term.

Must also identify risks which exist or are likely to exist and develop means to mitigate the effects of those risks occurring.
Must always act fully in support of the Contracts Manager.
Must always operate and carry out business in a professional, productive and positive manner in keeping with a role of seniority.
Should assist reasonably in the continued development of this role to provide betterment to the division.
Must undertake any other associated task as reasonably directed by the Contracts Manager.

SKILLS EXPERIENCE

Excellent knowledge of NEC4, particularly main option C
Excellent communication and management skills
Recent experience in a similar position, in relation to similar sized projects.

It is reasonably expected that the post holder will be responsible for spend around £10m per annum
Construction or highways civil engineering related qualification at a higher level.
Demonstrable ability to understand a management system and ensure compliance throughout the lifecycle of a project
Demonstrable ability to interact in a professional, collaborative manner at all times.


REGULAR DUTIES


Control of Clause 32 programmes, supported by a planner
Control of resources and selection of tasks / activities and the resources to be attributed to carry them out.
Carrying out routine audits, inspections, testing and ensuring that direct reports and indirect reports do the same
Routine reporting to Contracts Manager
Understanding the IMS and adhering to it, and all necessary timescales within it.
