Keep reading ! The Role: This role sits within the UK Collaborative Engineering Services Team, within the central Engineering function.

The team’s primary objectives are to deliver & ensure the availability, effectiveness and supportability of the shared Engineering Environment – the tools, applications and IS collaborative capabilities, used by all UK engineers.

This includes the continuous improvement and evolution of the environment, with an aim to increase the efficiency of engineers across the UK.

The primary purpose of the role is in defining and sustaining the Hardware Engineering tools and their environments architecture for bids, project & product engineering activities.

You will define, deploy and organise support for state-of-the-art technologies, Hardware Engineering applications and their environments that support over 1000 Hardware design Engineers.

The company is looking for experienced Hardware Engineering managers, Hardware Engineering CAD Managers/Administrators or Hardware Design Engineer with a keen interest in computing and Hardware Engineering design technologies and tools.

The nature of the work demands strong commitment to delivery, continuous improvement and a willingness to take ownership for providing an effective service to multiple business sites around the UK.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks:

Design Authority for the UK Hardware Engineering Tools environment
Exercise governance over the use of new and legacy tools, in conjunction with the domain-engineering directors and their functional leads.
Support the development and deployment of smart and innovative Hardware Engineering Environments (applications, tools, specialist infrastructure) and their supporting services
Own and drive applications evolutions, centralisation, migrations & efficiencies, and version alignment across the UK and in Line with Group wide road maps, to maintain interoperability at the leading edge of tools capabilities
Drive out legacy and technical debt
Maintain the relationship between IS/IT architecture & Engineering tools architecture
Negotiate appropriate SLA (service level agreement)
Contribute to incident and problem management as required.

About you: You are a self-motivated individual who possesses a Hardware Engineering background, passionate and enthused by continuous improvement of tools and applications.

The hardware engineering discipline within the business is diverse and they don’t expect to someone to have experience across all activities, so experience with some of the Hardware Engineering applications that the business uses is helpful but a willingness to learn and get stuck in is more so :

Mechanical design: PTC Creo, Windchill, PDMlink
Electronic design: Cadence Design Entry HDL and Allegro
FPGA design: Siemens/Mentor Graphics HDS, Questa also Xilinx and Altera
Interconnection and cabling design: Siemens VeSYS
FEA Simulation tools: Ansys Mechanical, IcePAK, Fluent
